Hello all.
I'm doing a bit of homework and trying to get a bit more educated about chippers before buying a used one to facilitate doing storm cleanup jobs. Outside of an older whisper chipper, the only ones I have used are 6" opening, disc style models of Vermeer, Rayco and one other brand of which I forget... What I'm curious of is from productivity and maintenance standpoints, what are the relative virtues and drawbacks of drum chippers vs disk and production versus fuel burn between 6" models and up to 12" models. I'm leaning towards a 10" model as the 6" ones do a decent job, but seem to load up quickly on fleshy/leafy material and slow down very quickly on decent branches. I don't mean to open a can of worms, but I'd like to make as educated decision as possible before spending hard-earned money...
Thanks in advance!

IF you are really serious about using chipper for storm cleanup. I would not get less than a 12 inch chipper.

I know, more cash, more fuel, etc etc but they are so much more productive and the time they save..........

Usually, storms leave big jumbled piles of branches, and wood. Trying to sort that out to feed big armloads of branches into a tiny chipper is just M I S E R Y

Look at Bandit 250 xp or Vermeer 1500's. Rent one and use for a day. That should make up your mind for you.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try to find one or the other and give them a spin.
