I know a while back there were some of you that were gonna get together to compare the 372 and the 7300/7900 (or was that gonna be at Dans?). There was a Dolmar rep at a home show last weekend. Pretty sweet saws. Anyway, just curriouse on the results if I missed it.

Thanks,
Doug

There will be a lot going on at Dans, but the 7300,7900,372,385 shoot out was supposed to be a seperate event. I have a brand new bar and 4 brand new chains ready. I have my 7900 which is not broken in yet and a new 385 which belongs to a friend. Marty, you reading this? If Chainsawworld goes to Dans, we can do the testing there.

Rocky, the 6400, 7300 and 7900 are all the same saw with different piston/cylinders. Apart from the price difference I personally see no reason to get a "small" one.

I agree with sedanman. The spec sheet says the 6400,7300 and the 7900 all weight 13.6 lbs(dry weight w/o bar or chain).
7900 is the way to go out of those 3.

Doug was that show the one at the trade center in springfield? If it was did you see the vintage Sachs Dolmars that were there? They had a madel CC with a 5 foot bar on it SWEET! I let them borrow my new 112 and 117 to show!

I couldn't run the PP7900 and 372 side by side yesterday in the 2 big doug fir that we blocked down as the 372 has a gas leak. Been too busy to check it out, but I think it is just a fuel line or vent problem.

The first time I compared the two, the Walkerized 372 was only a tad slower. But yesterday, the 7900, with 24 bar, well sharpened square chain, was blowing through up to 30 inch wood faster than my 066 with 36 bar...and I only had a 7 tooth sprocket on it. It was by far the fastest that two firs have ever disappeared, in this state!

hunter the wt of the three saws was a question i ask before. ed had some pertinent info on what he found to be true. i cant find the post tho.

The only difference in the weight of the 3 saws in in the piston and the barrel. Everything else on the 3 saws are identical, even the carb jets are the same.

Those 7900s are an odd breed. Some of them are super tight from new. After you run about 10 or more tanks of fuel through them, they will start to loosen up. If you get a tight one, your first impression will be this saw is a pig. Then one day they seem to come alive.
As for the 7300
If I can ever get my kid motivated, he will have his PPJR7300 ready for the show. He just turned 16 and his girlfriend and learners permit have been taking priority over building saws.

Does a semi boneless ham, come from a semi boneless pig?

Dozer Dan's, Hunter, or Dolmar tech, between the five of you, could you tell us the bore/stroke specs for the 7900 family? Thanks.

7X00 family specs are documented in their manual available online.  Here's the pertinent page in PDF.

Javelin, no it was the one in Cape. I was supprised, Dolmar was the only saw rep there. With the 7900 weighing close to the 372 I bet it will start making an impact (more so outside these circles). I, for some reason, thought the 7900 would have had a bigger air filter though? Doesn't seem to be an issue though.

Doug

Doug01, Dolmar uses a version of turbo air filtration on this saw and a flap in the bottom of the air box to drop larger particles out. Also, the bottom of the filter is pleated and has a lot of surface area. I sound like I should be selling Dolmars!

I ran my Makita 7301 ( same as the Dolmar 7300 yesterday for 3 tanks of fuel. It seems to be as good as any other 70cc saw. The power and speed are real good as is the anti-vibe, especially with the dual-ported muffler ( see below thread ). This saw can be had for just around $500 which puts it pretty close to the Husky 372. I like trying different saws that no one else is using. This saw is pretty good!

Hi Tony
Josh did finish up his PP7300Jr, we will see how it stacks up against some of my PP372s.
I think that I smell some Nitro in the air.

I thought we were to be running woodsaws that use normal gas not alcohol or nitro because if you are using that stuff it is not a woodsaw or just maybe i missed the point of this get together
