The 020 av was a universal engine with a number of applications, (very forward thinking of Stihl and very clever!). I started my climbing career using the top handled 020av and later on when the 020t came along I converted it into a hedgecutter!

Does the brushcutter have an oil pump or even the place to mount one with its oil pickup hose/pipe?
I actually contacted Stihl when I acquired this thing trying to get some info on it. They did not have much info on it but told me it was produced in the 70's using using an 020av chain saw. It has a hole for where the bar oil goes. I was thinking that it just may need the top handle assy. & side cover. I've seen some pictures of an 020av saw and mine looks just like one except for the handle & bar. it runs really well & I'm hoping I can turn it into a top handle saw. I don't have it apart to see what I'd need to mount the bar. I was hoping someone has converted one and might supply some info.

Me personally would leave that unit as is. That’s pretty rare with the brush cutter attachment, I’ve never seen one before, very cool. If you don’t want it I think you could sell it, and buy an 020 that’s already a chainsaw and have a little money left over plus save yourself the work of the conversion plus keep that unit in one piece as a collectible piece of Stihl history. Just my 2 cents/personal opinion.

I've thought about that but I would need someone interested to add to their collection. Do you have any idea what it would be worth?
I really don't need a top handle saw as I have an old 020T that I use.

If the brush cutter works good, it’s worth whatever a collector wants to pay, i’d say $300, but then again they are rare and I’ve never seen one for sale before. Too bad you’re not in Wisconsin, if you were I’d be interested.

Thanks for your input. Now you've got me thinking. I am not a collector but I would hate to destroy something that has some history and is kind of rare. I've searched for info on this and there is not much available.
