Could a 353 be 'upgraded' to a 346xp?

Husqy says they are built on the same chassis, so could one buy a jug and piston for a 346xp and have it all bolt up?

I don't think I'd do this till my 353 ate something up, but if I could... I might have a rebuild kit on the shelves in case something does happen.

Yup, my 351 (older version of the 353 with a 1mm smaller bore) has a 346xp topend on it.

If you are leaving it stock for firewood duties, I would probably leave the 353 on it...much more forgiving powerband

I want XP decals for my 2149...It too wears the little bad boy 346 topend. Wonder why Jred doesn't send that model over here.....

........but for some reason the 2147 is listed as .2 kg (close to 1/2 pound) heavier than the 346xp - same as the 353/2152.......:biggrinbounce2: :biggrinbounce2:

It really destroys the power to weight ratio - the 2147 isn't even close to the 5100, while the 346xp is........

P/w ratio don't mean squat... The 5100 might way a tad more, but has a LOT more grunt to it. The 346 looks good on paper, but put 3/8 chain with a 16" bar on both of them and tell me which one cuts better, and has more power to run a longer bar... The 5100 will walk, erh run, in circles around the 346.

Thats becouse 346xp was never meant to run 3/8...

ok, run .325 on them..The result will be the same...

My modded 346 runs 3/8 chain just fine and dandy.....

If I can ever get mine set right, I think it would easily pull it as well!! Did a LOT better the other day in Hedge! Dad was scared of it, and that was only at 13.5k!! Still another 1k to go!

Don't be a girl. DEW IT. DEW IT NOW!

I run mine at 15.5K if that makes you feel any better.....

Going to have to pull the limiter on the H side, I can't get it to screw in any farther? There is no way this saw was set half way close when it left the factory. No wonder the original owner as well as myself have been sorely dissapointed with it!!! Finally got a half decent tach, my Mac multimeter was giving me false readings!

a local dealer demo'd his tach for me on a 2152 it was set to 13.8k and if you had asked me by my ear I would have pushed it higher it was really 4 stroking.
the bottom end will take it as long as it doesn't lean out.

strange, i tuned my 353 by ear to the edge of 4 stroking, must've been running around 14k then i quess :hmm3grin2orange:

Also, when i took it to dealer cos of the failure i told the mechanic to tune the saw just incase, and after that its way more 4-stroky than after my tuning...

I think that the crankshaft are different, so it not just a simple bolt-on:cry:

You can bolt-on a jug and piston, but you'r ending up whit some oddball saw, and it will not be a 346xp.;)
