geezus how much feckin rope you got, bits all over the shop.

learn to climb on 1 bit of rope and bin that tangle web of ####e

Hmm... looks like 1 flipcord and one climbing rope to me.... I won't say nothing about the belly because I am a 225 pound silverback in the tree... I outclimb most though.:D

Yup we both are using only one climb line and in both cases the excess is in bags so not sure what hes seeing other then the flip line.

and you have spikes on.....wtf?:dizzy::dizzy:

you fat bastids ought to climb without spikes and learn before you leap.stupid spikeing fat shrimp suckin dumbass yanks....:greenchainsaw:

One piece of constructive criticism though SOM:

In the first pic of yourself in the tree you've got your climbing line around the limb only (actually the stub but I'm sure there was a limb there before you cut it). That's pretty much a no no. Always go around the trunk of the tree. If for any reason the limb should fail it will be backed up by the next limb or fork down. Not to mention that you will not have to worry about your climbing line slipping off the stub and falling, however unlikely that may seem.

Thanks for the advice that was a limb I had just cut, I needed out of the way to advance my climb line. Right after that I tightened my flip and moved the climb line up, so that cut was after I was pretty much ready to move on. Hind site being 20-20 I guess at least I should have tightened my flip line first but I was pretty comfortable with my position at the time.

You don't use spikes for removals... :dizzy:

A good climber knows when to use the right tool for the job. I'm more interested in production than style points with the climbers that work for me. I had a climber do a removal without spikes onetime. Said he didn't get style points for using spikes. After he took three hours on a tree that would have taken me an hour I grounded his ass and took over.

Spikeless prunes, you bet. Spikeless removals... You can rec climb on your own time.

the tree in the bottom picture id dismantle in 40 mins or have it down in 3 cuts missing the power lines and fell the stem if clear other wise cut and chuck within 45 mins....

To tell you the truth it didnt take much more then that, if even that. The first tree obviously was the majority of the time, power on one side, house on other side and driveway on the third side.

When I am spiking a removal I will only use my climbing line as a secondary tie in when I cut on the way up(unless I have set a line to climb on first). I use it just like a lanyard in those situations. I will usually only advance my climb line when I am climbing on a rope doing a prune. Sometimes I will set a line first in a large removal where it is hard to get a lanyard around the tree or in a tree where I have a difficult crotch to bypass or something like that. Otherwise I just use my lanyard on the way up and back it up with the climb line when I make a cut. It's all about positioning. Get into a position where you can cut around waist level then tie in properly.

Not knocking you, just sharing how I do it.

I appreciate your advice please keep it coming. The climb line is mainly being set because the second leader which you cant really see in those pics had some a good amount of rot in it. And as Beast o Bodmin (or whoever is trolling) so eloquently stated I am a biggen so the line was really being set for safety reasons on the other leader.

He's the fat one in the orange. :hmm3grin2orange:

It did look like fc had a tuflex sling hanging off him in one pic. not sure what that was about.

In case he had to lower me down.

LOL, This thread is turning out to be too funny!

Just so's you'll know, I'm a biggun as well. Hey, what can I say, I make good money and eat well. If I had to live off of kipper snacks and blood pudding I'd prolly be as skinny as our mad dog Englishman...

Well next time Ill punch here in the mouth when I am done so you will know I was there.

I'd rep ya, but it won't let me. That's funny crap...I'm so stealing it. lol

BTW, I knew I'd like the police, once I cleaned up my act. You're top notch classy SOM. Way to be an example to the trolls.

God Bless,

Jeff
