Jacob, we have hills ALOT steeper than that!! Next time I have the camra handy I'll snap a couple pics. Elevation is 1,400-2,100'
in those pics. Go just a little further north and west and you quickly hit 3,100ft.

Ryan,

Nice pictures although, safety should always be first. If an insurance (Comp.) company saw you using a saw without a screen hard hat and chaps, a headache would be sure to follow.

Keep the pictures coming and be safe.

TJACK

TJACK, it is VERY rare for me NOT to wear full safty gear when cutting. In fact if my memory serves me correctly that is the FIRST time in months that I have not had at least chaps on (not counting in-tree cutting)

Hi Cary

Those particular trees were aleady standing dead or had been burned so hot that they were snags at that point. My job is take down any snag that presents a hazard to crews working in the area for mop-up or for fire control issues. That particular area had already been burned by the time I was in there cutting. Believe it or not, but that whole hillside was full of brush. That whole valley, the Calf creek drainage, east of Glide, Or, was just a moonscape after the "Apple" fire rolled through.

Ryan,
When did you find clear weather like that around here this year? This is the rainiest weather I've seen in 35 years. We've had an average years rain in 5 months. It's rained 13 out the last 16 weekends. We've had 1.5" since Sunday evening. Over in Stanly county they had 2.5" in an hour this week. Four people died in a flash flood when their car was swept away. They haven't found the 8 year old yet. We can hardly even drive across the pastures here on the farm. No corn or soybeans are planted. Very little hay has been cut. I can't even think about getting to the wood that I need to cut for next winter. Last year we were in a extreme drought and this year extreme rain. Was that snow this year? I just checked, I keep weather record extremes, and I can't find any snow on my records or at Accuweather records for April. I'm not trying to dispute what we're saying but your location says Chapel Hill, is that actually where you are or are you in the mountains? NC mountains can get snow in almost any month of the year.

Grateful11, the pic with the snow was taken at a job I was on in the mountains of Virginia. As a matter of fact I will be moving there in a few months;)
