hey guys

how should i take care of my saw on a daily basis?

used it today and it was great albeit very hard work falling, bucking and dragging the brush into a pile..

i greased the sprocket on the bar, and cleaned the saw with a brush (took off the bar nuts and cleaned inside there as well) and then wiped the entire thing down

i should learn how to sharpen the chain as well

is there any other maintance items i'm missing?

as a side note - found a guy who says he'll sell a cords worth of green hardwood logs (unspilt and cut into 8 foot sections) for 60.00 - is this a fair price

Thanks again

On a day to day basis i don't do to much to my saws other than sharpen and tighten the chain. Every weekend i try to tear them down and grease the clutch bearing, clean the cr@p out of the clutch cover and check for loose/missing bolts. There are hours of reading on here about sharpening chains, just go into the "search" function. I grease my sprocket nose usually when i sharpen the chain. As for the wood, the going rate around here is $60 to $75 a face cord, so i'll let you be the judge on that.

maitenence

Clean air filter after every day, sharpen/tighten (if needed) chain every tankfull, blow saw out or clean with brush(I'm lucky enough to have an air compressor), clean bar groove every once in awhile, de-burr the bar edges if needed, grease bar tip if greaseable. :hmm3grin2orange: :biggrinbounce2: :greenchainsaw:

I clean and thoroughly nut and bolt my saws after every use, but thats me, I have been accused of being a gearhead before.

It all depends on how much work you're doing.
Back when I was cutting for the mill, I cut from 75 to 150 trees a day (depending on the size of trees we were in). Then I cleaned the air filter, turned the bar over, and blew the saw out daily.
Now I'm on my own I don't cut that many trees so the air filter still gets cleaned daily, but the bar gets turned over once or twice a week, and I blow the saw out every once in a while. I have always greased the clutch bearing once a week.
Keep your air filter clean, and your chain sharp and tight, and you'll be alright.

I get a bucket of hot water, drop in some car wash, pop all the covers and scrub everything down with a rag and a parts brush. The oak and juniper around here really plugs things up. I find I'm sharpening between 1/2 to a full cord of cutting, but really I sharpen when performance falls off. On some of my saws I drain the bar oil and gas so they don't ooze in my workshop. I have found that draining the bar oil does have some other benefits.. when I return the oil to the container I strain it through a rag and I do get plenty of sawdust that would have gone throught oiler.

If I used the saw everyday, I have a feeling I'd perform the above every second or third use. I never know when I'll get the time to go cutting again so I clean the saw as if I'm putting it up for a while.
