I got a call at 1 pm today, "Can you come out and drop 13 trees? The company we contracted did not show up, and the job has to be done by Monday."

I said sure, pay us $2000 plus I share some of the log revenue for processing them and lining up the sale and delivery. He said, the job pays cash, I said, you're on.

So, after doing 3 estimates and eating, I drove out to look, but unfortunately, he'd given poor directions, and it got too dark to find the site. But I'm still going, sight unseen, and taking two or three guys.

Can't turn down the opp to run the new PP 7900 all day!!!

And if only one of my regular crew shows, plus a groundie, I've set up 69 yr old Bob York to join us in the fun! He has no problems with working 7 days a week, cancer be dammed, what a stud!!!

Here's Bad Bob:

Cool! I love working weekends! They can make up for those rained out weekdays!
Good luck with it, and have fun with your new toy! :)

I Love Mapquest; any job in a new area has a custom-printed map attached to the proposal.

"That which does not kill us makes us stronger", who said that anyway? May have been a cancer survivor; since chemo I've had the feeling that nothin can stop me.

ps I like working sundays; then I take thursdays off :)

First, he called while I was on the road...and as yet, I don't have wireless internet, and carry the laptop. Second, he gave the wrong address, or I wrote it wrong. Then, he didnt answer the phone when I called 2 hrs later to say I ewas on the way. Next, I had left my mapbook at home, but that wasnt the problem. I found the wrong address.

Whatever, now it's raining (drizzling), uggh, and one crew didn't answer the phone yet, the other did, but instantly fell asleep with the phone off the hook, it sounded like. So now I'll call good old man Bob, I guarantee ya he's up! The customer will be the groundie, who needs the young drunks.....

Actually I'd love to have them, they're great climbers...plus they owe me some $.

Well, the clueless client, a landscaper, never returned my call last night or this morning. But Bob and a friend/gman of his, and myself headed out to Lake Roesiger after having breakfast. It was an hour drive, and darned if the guy hadn't given me the wrong address again. Finally I lucked out and saw what looked like the jobsite. A neighbor was home, and had the homeowner's phone number. So we were able to finally get to work sometime about 10:30. The landscaper didn't show up for a couple hours, what a joke. We put close to 6000 board feet of fir, cedar and hemlock on the ground, some 140 feet tall. We've two more 120 foot firs in real close quarters to go tomorrow, and three sticks to drop with ropes in them. So, another $1000 to add to today's 2k will be nice.

Didn't hear from my sleepyhead regular crew till too late...they live 1.5 hours away from the job. Poor guys are bummed, they would have each made $400.

I ran a good sharp chain on the 7900 today, and she really came alive. Still have to run a few more tanks through her till she reaches full potential, which will be darned close to my dual port 066! I love everything about the saw- light weight, the smooth, compact shape, low vibration, speed and awesome torque amazingly good filtration...likely the best saw I've ever run! Best location for compression release too.

We ended up doing five trees today, as they added on three more. Still have to go back to meet the log truck Thursday, then drop two more 60 foot sticks when the landing zone is cleared of logs.

Man that 7900 is one fine saw!!

Nice sized butt on this small cedar, which took Travis about 5 minutes to limb and top...then I dropped a 50 foot stick.

It was the only tree that wasn't being removed to reduce hazard. The customer wanted a clear view of the lake...no arguing with him I reckon.

On the way to the job, just outside historic Snohomish, stands this old growth candleabra cedar, close to 8 feet at the butt. It has one live limb..has been like this for years!

On the way home, I spotted this very interesting tree. Introduced myself to the residents- super nice people---the tree was a major reason they bought the property. Took a bunch of pics, most with my new wide angle lens on the 35 mm film cam.... A blue heron flew over, eagles hang out.... all kinds of neat surrounding, pond....two caged pet raccoons....a 120 foot 5 foot dbh black cottonwood....and this tree, which is close in size to the state champion....anybody guess what it might be?

worked all weekend myself but had monday off done 1o pines most very dead couple unclimbable had a mate an x logger float a 25 t cat with log grab out so the job became ???? easy all i did was scarf 2cash 500 expences, float diesel, insurance on cat.sunday climbed a 60ft eucy put rope in top,was leaning slightly wrong way pulled it over chipped blocked 450 cash went halves same mate.who wants work weekdays!have a big pine to do in a school yard saturday got 5 man crew in for morning, loader and tipper due at lunchtime got to have stump, wood gone by monday.

Wow. De-forestation. Around here (NE) The home owner would have to sit before the conservation committe and ask permission to cut ANY tree or brush 100 yards from the water, any water. Even to prune or vista cut this has to be done. It is kind of a pain in the ass but I believe in the principal.

Now, have I done "a little" un-autherized cutting and pruning, sure. But when people go to a lake they want to see wilderness, not a bunch of houses surronding the lake seperated by some trees.

Rbtree. I am NOT slamming you in the least. just stating how things are up here.
