surgeon,

Snohomish is 35 miles from Seattle along the Skykomish River. It was settled in the late 1800's. Almost all the architecture is historic, and is maintained that way, likely by code.

eagle,

Lake Roesiger is in the Cascade foothills. Half of the western side has been disfigured by a giant obnoxious clearcut, right to the road, with homes and cabins on the lake side. All but one of the trees we cut were tall evergreens in close proximity to three homes, many had significant trunk rot, all were subject to failure--one had already gone down, jus tmissing two homes. In addition, the recent clearcut exposed them more. There are still at least 30 trees on the appx 1/2 acre lot.

Was it topped right above the main stem? Blacks around here usually have stronger upright growth. Last fall one was removed about a block from my house that was likely 95' tall. For some reason blacks were interplanted with filberts quite a bit. Or is there some other species of Juglans.

Or climber,

Yes it is juglans but not walnut....

Ben,

Yup yup yup!!

Craig,

This spot is north of the Skykomish River. There's lots of monster cottonwood around. I've not heard of that stove shop.

Today's travels found this interesting tree:

ID anyone?

Today, I got some better pics of the awesome old cedar partriarch that watches over the lowlands, which might be over 8 feet dbh, about 150 feet tall, and dead except for one branch for as long as I can remember, 20 yrs or so...

I've never measured it, wish I'd though to do it today....but check out the car, it is even with the tree, and about 6 feet wide...the tree looks to be about 10 feet dbh, eh?
