Take her outside

Take her outside and heat it up with a torch till cherry red flip over and repeat until no more smoke then tap it to loosen all the carbon ash and then clean out the ash. You have the later one piece then I reckon. Check inside for a screen between the inlet and outlet that is most likely crudded up.

Threw it on a bed of red coals for a bit, worked well, all clean now.

No screen of any kind, nor evidence of one, the muffler surface just has a lot of small holes.
