In my days I've seen some dirty loads on a truck and have loaded about 10 times what every body thought would fit on a half ton pick up. I want to see some pics of some stacked trucks if you got em.

My brother was at a 4x4 shop and they would not belive that half ton truck axles could hold what he claim but its true. I have dropped a couple of sugar maple stems directly on the truck from standing before and they were about 3 feet in diamiter and about ten feet log on a dodge half ton.

One block that was so heavy that we dropped on the truck that the box actually folded over the wood at the fender wells in side the box and was stuck. Got any good stories or pics?

Ya, i'll have some real doosies after this summer. But give me a week and I'll have some. I'ts pretty funny, people just stop and stare when were going buy.

I can't believe you are telling us you do things like this. I don't know what to say. I guess it is better not to say anything at all.

I have no pics, (sorry) but I built a four foot tall chip box on my half ton truck, and chipped into it till they were spilling out. Guys I work with would hire me to come and chip brush for them on their side jobs, and cant believe how much chips I can put in my truck.

I have dropped logs out of trees into the bed of my truck too. It gets some funny looks from the homeowners. But when the large logs land flat, dead center of truckbed, you look like a pro!

Sounds exspensively stupid.

I will sometimes send the top of the tree in the trailer, if it is a straight shot, and the limbs cushion all the force, nothin too big.

It would seem stupid to taco your bed...

I drive an older truck, and my trailers and it have some battle scars, but i dont brag about them, it shows a lack of professionalism.

Some stories are funny to hear and tell, others show a lack...

I sound like rocky, but arent we professionals? Do you really save the money on labor if you have to buy a new bed for your truck?

Actually you make a good point. And I have yet to smash or screw up anything with my equipment. I would never drop a log into my truck big enough to smash the side.

Really?

I drop logs into the log truck (16'6"). But it is what he tells me to do sometimes (depends on if he can get around to pick the logs up with the arms), but it is made to take stong loads, but I wouldnt do it to my truck. And the only way i do that is with the last piece, with the hinge at the same level as the bed.

But intentionally droppin chunks that are too heavy for the truck to handle is stupid (not ignorant, you know better). If you make them land flat that will spread the load out, but there is always a limit. I never drop anything into anything that is too big, such as a tiny (in diameter) top that is bushy to spread the load.

Messin up you truck to save time is pointless. You spend more time makin the money to fix the truck than to cut up the pieces and load them by hand.

I cant toast them like he does.... maybe one day. But then I would loose some of my charm;).

So stupid........ cost more than it saves.

hmm overloading your pick up eh? personally this is not something i like doing, main reason in my neck of the woods if john law (police) spot you they will nick you and points dont mean prizes, if you know what i mean, plus......... nah i'm not going there i am starting to sound old lol

its not big and its not hard :)

I would say we have sunk too an all time low with this thread.

I don't believe in dropping logs into a truck or trailer but I thought that you guys might like this picture. This maple was blown over on this truck (as well as two others). This is a 1967 Ford F-250 with a ton rearend. It originally belonged to a rural fire dept. and only had 30,000 miles on it as well as the original tires. The tires held and when I got it off the owner pulled the door open, fired it up and drove it around to the garage.

Here is the second picture. I made it smaller so that it might download faster. This is the first time that I have posted pictures.

This one is fussy from operator error (don't adjust your sets!!!)

You gotta miss Rocky when a thread like this gets started. I thought of Rocky when I posted my reply and decided not to coment too much. Saying that its not profesional hit the nail on the head. Dropping wood into, onto a truck? where does it end? I just don't know what to say.

Like this, TC?

Just trim the sides, and head to the dump!

I hope the moderators will take note of the conspicuous absence of our tree brother Rocky... Harsh yes... insensitive sometimes...
All in all though, he did serve a useful purpose as a kind of cyber bouncer... While many of us are at a loss for words here whe faced with a "how stupid can you be" thread, how many doubt that the Rockster would have let loose here so perfectly that we woldn't have to give it another thought...
Come to think of it, maybe its really Rocky in disguise that put up this thread just to make us all miss him... Stranger things have happenned...
And I have dropped many logs in some old trucks with very little damage, but it's been a lot of years since the not so good old days... Mostly notching the butt log slowly over into a raised dump bed and then tying it off and lowering the bed, then backing into the next removal to nudge it forward on the bed. I've seen others do similar things with fairly big wood and a good bed of brush to cushion the fall.

sorry no pic

but i thought id mention that when bringing down say the last 20 foot of a difficult removal where there are breakables underneath my mate with a backhoe drives up and puts bucket in best possible spot then i just block straight into it then he loads truck for the cost of hoe for hour its more than worth while all stump wood is gone by time i hit the deck
