Well I rec'd my Jonsered 920 from UPS today, and she runs good. Unfortunately I didnt realize it had bigger bar studs than the 670 so my 28" bar wont fit

So for now the biggest bar I have that will fit is 20". It doesnt even know the bar is there. I couldnt stop the chain in a 15" oak log no matter what. And of course no compression release, so I break my fingers on the first pull every time:D

All metal consruction, I like it:)

I ran it against its little brother and the 920 was slightly faster. I know there would be a big difference in real wood. With the 670 is cuts all by itself with rpms. The 920 can be leaned on a little without complaint.

husky ,the mechanics here may say no to this idea. but u could try the champion easy start plug. it really does make one start first pull. im not sure how they hold up tho. good luck.
id be interested if the mechanics got comments on this easy start plug. what u think about it husky.:)

Why does this plug make the saw start easier? Hotter spark? Different electrode?
Just asking because I haven't seen one in person.

Husky,
Sound like you 920 is similar to my 801 as far as compression goes. If you find TDC before you make that first pull, things go much easier.

The best way that I have found is to grab the handle and give a slow, steady pull, it will let out rope a little bit and then kind of jump or give. I think this is where it has topped out and just started to push back down. Then let the rope go all the way back in and give it a starting pull.
It’s easy once you get the hang of it.

My problem is compounded by the fact that the starter rope is too short. I use my other saws, then grab the 920, forget the rope is short and it has 900000# of compression, and WHAM!

I will get used to it, and get a new rope this winter

One of the things you will probably want to keep around is extra starting rope. With the higher compression, you will find yourself replacing them more often.
The other thing I found on my 801 is that I just can’t get as much rope on the spool as I would like. The spring just won’t let the spool turn enough revolutions to wind up quite enough rope.
Most of my sawing had been done with my 801, until I got myself a 372. When I first went out and looked at saws, I picked up a 372 and couldn’t believe how little force it took to pull the starter rope, even without the compression release engaged.

RJS,
Turn up the sarcasm a little, I almost missed it.

In my own, unqualified wrench turning defense, a smaller diameter rope would actually make the problem slightly worse, as the spool isn’t full, the spring seems to be a little short. It just flat out runs out of turns. And it’s not short to the point of being a problem, it’s just shorter than my 372.

the electrode on the easy start comes to a real small tip.
dont know why,, it cranks them easier, but i put a good many elderly ladies to mowin, who just couldnt get the mowers to start with standard plugs. i put one in my newly aquired 650 evl echo. it has no decompression and also a fairly short starter rope. i dont do anything but choke it and pull it over one time . it usually pops first time ,then choke off and she usually cranks with one revolution.short pull. gettum at lowes for about 2.50. but worth the little exstra money.

RJS must be drinkin the cheap stuff tonight, so I will ignore his useless post.

This way when my bud's grab the 920 and try to look cool starting it, it kicks their azz and I get a chuckle.

Yeah, I think I will leave it like that for AT LEAST four months, maybe forever :p
