I've been having some trouble getting my saw to idle smoothly. I checked the carb. screws and that wasn't the issue. What I did notice, however, was that the green rubber boot going from the carb to the cylinder seems to be leaking. The connection point is totally caked with saw dust around the seam of the boot after only cutting for 20 minutes. Since there's no spring clamp like on the cylinder side, how do I fix it? I was going to smear some RTV around the external seam of the boot but I'm not sure if it will hold up and whether it's a good idea. I also noticed a lot of saw dust collecting at the rubber donut on the bottom of the air filter. I keep cleaning this air filter and somehow it keeps getting dust inside. Seems like the filter and intake system on this saw is more finicky than my Stihls.

Try tightening the carb bolts.

I had a 5100 that ran like yours does, nothing I did made it run any better.

The carb air filter setup is horrible, the hole on the bottom of the air filter sucks in dust like mad, I had to clean the inside of the filter after every tank of gas.

Good luck with your saw.

Andy.
