I think you're getting ahead of yourself here. I haven't said that Dolmar is better than either Husky or Stihl but I believe it is right up there with them. If loggers haven't had a problem using Husky or Stihl then why would they swap to Dolmar? They have no need to. If they were getting a bad run from either Stihl or Husky then maybe they'd consider Dolmar?
It also goes back to a similar argument like Ford and Chevy - I'll run what daddy runs (or maybe what my boss runs?). They both make good vehicles.
I also resent the comment regarding "weekend warriors" and "making money". My 7900's are run as part of a business and ARE making me money. They have more than paid for themselves.
Just yesterday afternoon and today I dropped over 600 trees, ranging from 12-40".
In total on the job I am doing at the moment I have dropped well over 3000 trees, all with Dolmars except about 12 trees that I dropped with my Husky 3120 (surprise surprise I also have a Husky!).
I think it would be fair to say that on this job my 7900's have had a bigger workout per day than most loggers would give them. Apart from fuel/bar oil, swapping out chains, and driving a few hundred yards to the next tree run they are going non stop. 13 hours yesterday and today, 24 hours last weekend (whoops, sorry but I run my chainsaw/tree felling business after hours. Maybe I am the dreaded weekend warrior?).
As far as your 3 reasons not to own one...
- Since when do real loggers care what a saw looks like as long as it works?
- Most guys I know that use their saws as a form of income (including myself) keep a reasonable line of spares on hand. I even keep spares on hand for my Husky even though we have an excellent local dealer. A full range of Dolmar spares are actually available you know?
- The fact your boss keeps a good line of old Stihl parts sort of explains everything as to why you seem to have a dislike for Dolmars. When you own the saws though you do tend to take care of them - just a hint but a similar scenario to rental cars. They always get flogged if you don't actually own them.
The fact that you still haven't used or probably even had a good look over a 7900 really makes me wonder where you're coming from. If you'd owned 3 and blown up 1 then you'd be "qualified" to comment.
Oh and I have gotten over a year out of my first 7900. I pulled the muffler the other week and the P & C looks like new.
Saw racism - it exists
