Good to hear that the filter is doing well.

I am Mopar man so the under dog is a friend of mine.

i have never run a 7900 but I have tossed them around at the tire shop in Covington(thats who sells em).

Have herd other loggers speak about them, fast but not solid.

Someone send me theirs & let me put some time on it, see what I think;)

Rep'd. :)

Are you out in Oregon or back in Lynchburg? I have one with the filter kit you could try if your back east. I travel through I -64 quite regularly for work.

Im out her in Oregon right now,

Probably will be back in VA for christmas.

I would really enjoy running said saw though!! then maybe I could validate some of my chit talking haha...

wanna try an sp 81?

Thought I'd add a bit more to the HD Filter thread. I already have the modded 7900 with HD filter kit by Brad - great saw and the filter kit is excellent (although still haven't tried it out on dead Redgum - hope to this weekend).
Brad is also porting another OEM P&C for me plus modding a muffler and posting them out to fit to my stock 7900. I also bought a modded 390XP off Brad too. I was going to get another modded 7900 sent out but Brad had a nice 390XP there for a good price that I couldn't pass up :)
I ordered the HD Filter kit from Baileys which arrived today so I fitted it to my stocky after work. Kit fitted perfectly and only took about 15 minutes to fit it - this includes me pulling the recoil starter off because I thought I'd have to pull the intake boot off and couldn't get to the clamp screw (I didn't have to pull this off - should always read the instructions!).
Anyway, after installing the kit the improvement in the saw's performance was instantly noticable.
Anybody who decides to port or mod a 6400-7900 really should consider this kit. I don't think your Dolmar's full performance will be reached without it.
It even gives it a "throaty" type intake sound under acceleration :)
It reminds me of a Mini I had with a bored 1310cc Cooper 'S' motor in it and a 45mmDCOE sidedraft Weber carby on it. The carby intake was right against the firewall (East West motor mount) which sounded awesome in the cab!

a couple things to add

we did a take down for a local logger (a huge pasture pig pine next to his garage) He happened to come home just as I was limbing w/ my 7900. He said what is that saw? I let him check it out. 6months later he has switched to dolmar.
I think that it is just a matter of time before you will start seeing more of them in use by professionals.

Also I wanted to point out that site sponsor edge and engine has these kits available.

Couldn't of said it better my self MC-Dub. The saw definitely "snaps" at the throttle for sure. You can even tell it's breathing better. That throaty intake sounds great too. It makes owning it that much better. It was an extra $75 but it was WELL worth the investment.

Yeah I should have added that it is a worthwhile performance investment for non modded Dolmars as well.
P.S. You make me sound like a rapper gansta with the MC-Dub comment ;)

So does it just sound better or does it really run better? My Dolmar rep says there is a noticeable difference in performance....hoping they start making this stock next year.

One of my local dealers just picked up the Dolmar line because he was a shindaiwa dealer primarily. Since Echo decided to drop the shinny saws, he was in need of another saw company and wasn't impressed with the Echo's, nor the Red-Max's he also sells. I gave him an extra nudge to pickup Dolmar and he stuck a deal with the Dolmar rep that worked for both of them (Dolmar Rep really wants in this area as it has a high concentration of Amish and the dealer wanted to pick the amount of equipment he starts with). I told him to definitely stock the 420, 5100 and the 7900, and that is what he has done, except the 5100 is backordered at the moment. Prices were nice too (bar oil is 6.50. He has sold 2 7900 cheap to loggers to get the word out. They are impressed with the power so far. I really think Dolmar is starting to carve out a position for itself in the OPE industry. I have 2 dealers now within driving distance, and both have started this year. With the 5100 being on backorder from the distributor just shows that they have some demand for their product.

I dropped a few trees for a mate after work tonight and yeah I do think it makes a difference to performance.
I know that by just making a saw, car, bike etc louder sometimes makes it sound "faster" but it's really not.
Maybe subjective but I'm 99% sure it has increased performance in the cut.

I'm glad to hear the HD filter is working out so well for you Matt.

With the added surface area of the new filter, + what looks to be a better shaped upper intake, it's not a surprise the performance has increased a bit.

:agree2:

MC-Dub has it right....

I definitely noticed a difference in how it performed while milling both white pine and white ash.

But increased power isn't the #1 benefit of this filter kit, it's the filtration system itself. The performance of the filtration is quadrupled!!!

Run one of these saws with the crack-ass stock filter for a few tanks and check the filter. Then do the same thing with the HD kit and you will notice a difference that's as clear as night and day.

Better filtration is the big winner here. Performance comes second of course but definately worth a mention and adds to the value of this kit.
I'll be trying it out this weekend on dead Redgum. Redgum dust has a habit of making good filter systems look ordinary but I hope it comes up trumps. I won't hold my breath but even if some dust gets through it will be right up there with the standard Husky and Stihl filter systems...
