Unless you can get somebody in germany to send some over. Everybody out here likes the black hoods better.

Geez, where's monkeyhanger when you need him. A few new-style red covers and a few dozen sets of the euro-style Dawgs for all the guys on here who have been itching to get their hands on some, that'd be well worth importing.

Anyone have a 6401 Makita they would sell me cheap? Send me a PM!

The hoods have recently changed take a look at the old style vs new style (Brand new this summer in parts inventory). The part# on the new hood is 038118221 and sell for about $10.

Note: These hoods just came through in parts inventory and it may take a bit before you see them on new saws

The new hood has a nylon net casted into the cover.

I guess that would help keep out some of the really big chips that get up under my 7900 filters. They knock out okay, but they sure find a way to get in there. Other than that the filters stay impressively clean.

Is that scoop looking thing on the black picture really a part of the cap or is it something that is behind the cap.

three EASY mods that really wake it up.
Remove the muffler.
take a 3/8 socket extension, 6 inches long, and put the small end down through the exhaust port. It will hit a bent over lippy thingy.
Now wack it repeatedly until the lippy thingy has more clearance.

With the muffler off, Remove the shroud that covers the exhaust outlet. An old wood chisel works well. Remove the screw that holds the screen.
Now drill the BIGGEST hole you feel comfortable drilling making the outlet bigger.
Replace screen and screw and shroud.

Remove plastic cover that covers the air filter. Drill a 1.5 inch hole through the wall in teh middle, and remove half the louvers on the outside. If you don't believe me, run it once without the plastic cover on.

Did you have a chance to run that ebay 7900 at all? If so, what do you think of it?

For the 6400-7900. I would like to get a new carb cover (hood) in the black with screen and a new cylinder cover in black. Also wondering if you can get a old style or new style Makita GREY carb cover (hood)? I would take the grey makita carb cover in a good used or new also. Just let me know in a pm or post here in the open, 166 or cuttinscott.

Cuttinscott, 166 or others, I have gotten the part numbers for the black and grey carb hood covers, but I can only find the part number for the red cylinder covers. Does anyone have the part number for the BLACK 7900 cylinder cover?
I will keep checking my sources too.

Tried my local Dolmar dealer 12 miles away, that is usually good to go on the smaller stuff . Guess what, I gave him 2 out of 3 of the part numbers and he still said he don't show them in his book. Go figure Dolmar dropping the ball.
Now I see why everyone swears off Dolmars. Just a good thing I don't need a part to keep it running and it is just a cosmetic thing. :hmm3grin2orange:
Starting to wonder why I love the powerhouse of a saw 7900 with poor backing too! :biggrinbounce2:

Thanks for the part number for the black cylinder cover, but I dont think I can get it local now. Going to try calling another up north about a hour away and then I will say &%$# on it  .
