There seems to be a lot of Dolmar chainsaws being dumped on Ebay and other online stores for far less than dealer prices.... new saws, in the box. Seems that dealers are going out of biz, or peeved at the factory, or whatever. Is there a future for this saw company in the US? Or is this another spin on 'bait and switch,' or close up shop in the US (again)?????

The dealers in question were probably small engine shops already set up with IDN or "Briggs" And took on a chain saw line and found out it requires a bit more effort than they were willing to spend. I.E. Like alot of the dealers that AS members have visited that know Jack Ch*t about saws. Now thier inventory floor plan is due and they need to unload to pay bills.

I dont think he want to loose money! I would like to get them for $270 also!

Yeah, my hunch is dealer cost is right around 3 bills on these. Add a little to cover their incoming freight and any flooring/financing charges and you'll have a deal. A deal is a good deal only if it is good for both parties.

Yeah, I am not surprised that he's not accepting sub-$300 offers. Hell, I wouldn't either. But no harm in trying, right? Especially since I have no need for a 5100 and don't really want one, either. Unless I got it for $270, that is.

I got my 5100 from my dealer today. If it was not a deal already started I would have offered the guy 300 and drove down and picked it up. I should have weighted the saw in the box when I got ti today. I would assume it should ship for about 15 to 17 instead of the 30 he is asking.

So there is one person trying to sell a few saws on ebay and Dolmar is going out of business???? Quite a few listings for new dolmars have been pulled off ebay in the past year but a few sneak by.

There are hundreds of Brand New Husqvarna's on ebay all the time along with some Brand New Stihl's as well.

I now think this points back to the distributors. My 5100 was ordered from a full-line Dolmar dealer but drop-shipped to me directly from the distributor. That means there's a pre-arranged agreement between them to do that.

The computer industry has been doing this for years. It's quite efficient.

Even that is not allowed. You should have picked the saw up in person to comply with the rules.
Perhaps, but I don't have a dog in that fight. My point was, folks here have been pointing the finger at the dealers and/or Dolmar, but they're not the impetus behind it - it's the distributors. This wouldn't be happening otherwise. As for me, without a local dealer I am just happy to be able to get one and save a few pence doing it.

Yeah, me too. I just ordered one. Been hearing all this hype about Dolies, gotta try one out, I needed a small saw, and everybody and their dog has an 026.

Seems like Dolmar dumping to me...

More than one... Iowa, Texas, Louisianna... And more than just a few. More like 5 at a time. Its the sudden volume that caught my eye. New Stihls come up, but usually only now and then and one at a time from non-dealers. These are Dolmar dealers/ex-dealers selling these saws, and in volume. To me that seems more like dumping.

I say buy 'em while they are out there on the cheap!

It's more like Lazy dealers trying to roll product they have before they are due.

One dealer can bash another all they want, but I'll bet my boots the real source of the problem is the distributors... the "dealers" doing it are only accomplices.
