I don't know about your guys luck but every time I try and do a job on a sunday or holiday things never work out as planned. This past Christmas I was putting my mini in the shop to get it out of the snow and bam the wiring harness went out. Yesterday (mothers day) to grind some stumps because the contractors are waiting on them and I had equipment rented today for another job so I show up and the 811 joker only had one stump marked even through I said to mark the whole property so I couldn't do all the stumps and then to top it off I walked around my truck and notices that the front tread was starting to separate. So then the rest of the day was spent waiting for the tire place to fit me in and put a new tire on. I should listen to the old 80 something farmer I know "You shouldn't work on Sundays or holidays, they are best spent with family" My problem is the bills and weather don't care what day of week it is.

its just bad coincidence. dont turn down work just because of what day it is, be it holiday or weekend. only days i wont work on are christmas and thanksgiving, thats just because i know my family wont be working and its a good time to get together with them. i could have done a job yesterday but the company owner didnt want to work on mother's day. so now i have to do the job today.

we never work weekends or holidays or wen the customer is home you will have to do a free be to get payed tom trees

That's why every bid I run I look around and see what I think they'll try and throw in extra on me. Like a brush pile or low limbs, other trees with limbs on service wires, etc.

I either figure it in the bid or I know I will be able to leave it, because they told me don't worry about it.

Later fellas, I have a BIG elm to drop and stack.

Yep.. gotta catch those pita items that come up. Depending on what it is, I find better to clearly state what will not be done (if they do not state it). It then gives them opportunity to request it be added, and keeps your estimate down lower. Some items you mention (service wires) may not be able to be left out, but some can for sure as long as clearly documented and communicated.

Myself and the crew used to feel the same way about having the boss[ my uncle jim] around. We would tell him to go somewhere and leave us alone to get the job done, and most of the time he agreed to do so, as he knew we were right,LOL

With Diggers Hotline we could do the grind and they would be responsible for any interuptions.

What i do is mark each stump in orange, and any outlying roots. Then I will state that there are 7 stumps marked in orange when i make the call to locate.

I don't work on Sundays or major holidays and ever thing to be done is in writing and signed by me and the H/O..

I prefer to take Sundays and Holidays off but right now I'm working when I can. I worked this past Sunday, Mother's Day, but I asked the customer if it was OK first. The client awarded me the bid on Friday after she had gotten another estimate and decided to go with me. I told her I wanted to do it over the weekend if it was OK. She said great, do it. I was afraid she might back out if I gave her time to think about it. As slow as I've been, I'm working anytime I can. I do usually try to start a little later on Sunday's so I don't disturb people early in the morning. I usually like to start at around 10 but started at 9 on this last one because I had a lot to get done.

Yeah, partial performance= a contract.

We only work on Sun. and holidays during storm emergencies. Lots of HO's work their a$$es off all week and want to lay back on the days off (neighbors) and even if it ok w the client, you can offend potential customers and sort of look a little desperate working on those days.

If I wasn't in the city and there was space between the properties we would probably have at it more often.

well of course some people can work, as for farming, chainsaws, tractors, construction (noisy stuff) they can't. and people can go to church,

Some municipals and home owners associations I have dealt with have ordinances and covenants prohibiting using power equipment before a certain time on Sunday mornings.

we ran a generator on our tour bus outside our house at 11;30pm and we had a neighbor pound on our door, boy he wasn't happy he was going to call the cops if we didn't shut the generator down, although not much they would have done seeing as we went to the police the next day and our town doesn't have a time ordinance when we can and cannot make noise.

Yeah imo thats BS about what times you can work on a Sunday. If its 8-6 or whatever Monday-Sat then whats makes Sunday any different? In Indiana you can't by beer or liquor on Sundays. I can only think of reason, whatever happen to the policy of separation of church and state?

We had a hurricane blow thru here last Sept. Without power for 8 long days and some of the residents ran those cheap, loud generators that you cannot hear each other talk next to them, all night long. Well most people had their windows open as it was hot inside and cool outside while sleeping. Lots of hating going on.
