Does anyone have a source for 1/8" or so drill bits about 1 ft long to 2 feet. I cannot find any locally and would like to have a few on hand when trying to determine depth or size decayed areas in certain situations when necessary. Anyone else use this technique?

electrical supply houses carry long ship auger bits (self feeding wood boring bits) in various lengths for house wiring, average is 18" long, extensions easily added.
1/8" is small but maybe. average is 1/4" for low voltage cabling up to 1" or bigger for romex.

I have some ship augers for repair work, I would like the smaller bits for exploration. Small as possible.

Maybe the from the same people that make the smallest tubing in the world!

I remember that in about 1975, Guinness book of world records listed a rediculously small size for tubing. I don't recall the diameter, but it listed artificial insemination of mosquitos as its use (malaria research?).

Your skinny bit query reminded me of that.

Just looked in my toolbox. I've got a 12" long bit that must be 3/16" diameter. Its not marked at all, but its a mite bit over an 1/8".

That's darn close, only 6" short of your goal, and maybe skinny enough - sorry, no brand name on it.

If you know anyone that installs alarms ask them. they use very small , but long bits to install window alarms.
