at the metal pile, discarded by a townsfolk. looks nearly new (used). bar and chain appear nearly new. body excellent. three extra used chains in a blister pack. good compression. most likely rotted fuel lines/gummy carb. not much experience with the Craftsman saws. i believe this is from around mid-2000s. probably made by Poulan. what say you??

I used to get those at garage sales for $5. "Ran great last year, couldn't get it to start this year." Easy fix, use or flip.

These days I'd save the bar and chains to use on my battery electric saw, and throw the rest away.

Guy I got mine from said he got it at an estate sale and it ran good and he used it a few times and put it away for a while and the furl lines disintegrated. He put new lines in it and it still wouldn't run. I gave him 10 bucks for it with case, scrench and owner's manual. He had the fuel lines in the wrong places, they are two different size lines. Pressed the primer bulb and it was not moving fuel. Took the bulb out and switched the lines on the bulb. One is a loose fit but it doesn't leak. Pressed it again and fuel was moving and it fired right up. I just left the lines in the wrong tank holes because they were cut to fit and didn't leak. Did a muffler mod and it runs good. It has the chain adjuster built in the bar. It works fine.

If I'm remembering right, you can get the parts to put the chain adjuster in the clutch cover again. I never could make the bar adjuster work.
Yes you can. It has the place for one to go. I put one from a wild thing in mine and put a different bar on it. Then I needed that bar for another saw so I switched it back.

Didn't see the pictures the first time. Yours has a different style muffler

I used to have one kind of like that. I think mine was made by Poulan. My mom got it used/refurbed for $90 from a Sears outlet back in the 1990s. Ran it for several years and it worked great and had pretty nice spring AV for its vintage. Still have it, though I now run mainly Stihl saws.

Those older craftsman/Poulan saws always seem to run well when I pick them up. As long as the piston and cylinder are good I’d say it’s worth fixing. Muff mods definitely help those saws out.

What equivalent Poulan model is this?
One of the various 42cc models.
After a certain date,....not sure when,...they stopped making the 36cc and other sizes. Cheaper to print decals and slap a smaller bar on the 42cc saws as opposed to making different engines and stocking parts.

I had one from 1999. It said 40cc on the recoil sticker but said 42cc on the epa sticker.
