so i got the 660 in today and couldnt wait to try it out, but had to run out the door before i could. but before i did i noticied the felling dawgs were mis matched, then found the oil plug was mangled and even had a hole in it. then continued to look and found hey theres no air filter ether. while i was out i couldnt help but wonder what else was wrong. i came back and started it up thankfully it did. i let it idle for a little bit shut er off and took it inside for a compression test. compression read 130psi after maybe 10 seconds of running and then a couple minutes for me to bring it downstairs and prep it for compression testing. so my question is do i return it? ask to be refunded some to get the parts fixed or just leave it be and chaulk it up to a learning experience?

the ad is here http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=170560340577&si=yYRa7gBEATyS3WQ1WkAxuy6qghA%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Tough call. He's got a good rating, so I'd talk to him first before you do anything else. It wasn't advertised as being in mint condition.

Me? I enjoy working on saws, so I'd take it and fix what's wrong. But that's me.

That side cover looks like it fits a 880. That may be the differance in the dawgs. I'm not liking no air filter. Has it been run without the filter? Did the guy just take the filter off before selling?

I would try to get my money back. Ebay has buyer protection so if you feel the saw wasn't as described contact the seller first & try to resolve it with him. You can read about the steps to take on Ebay. Good luck.

I would contact him.
If I was listing the saw I certainly would have mentioned those items.
I wouldn't write "good compression" if it was 130#. I would state that it is 130#.
Hopefully you two can work it out.

Hi all, new here... first post. I would just fix it up and be done with it... however i'm pretty sure I would be upset too especially after dropping that much coin on a saw that may have been put together from a box of spare parts... It does state "no returns accepted". It's kind of the downside of purchasing stuff on ebay... hope it works out for ya...

i should have added that i did send him a message stating the issue with the dawgs, air filter and the crack. however it was before i tested the compression after and found the hole after. so i'm waiting to see where it goes from there. however i needed it for this weekend so its a little disappointing.

130 is not good! Sounds worn out to me.

i agree the overall look of the saw looks like its been used pretty hard. which is really making me wonder.

i should mention as well, i really dont mind working on saws i just would have bid accordingly and i also really needed a large working saw that didnt need any down time. its a rather disappointing experience considering i bid on that one since it did look like it was in good condition and the seller did have a good rating.

also to one of the previous comments it does say no returns however its covered under the buyer protections program by ebay.

Must say,for that kinda coin I'd be sad. But I see it says no returns, hard call what to do. Good Luck!

Pull the muffler and look for scratches on the piston and take it from there.

Yep. I don't trust compression testers necessarily. Mine won't go over 140 on anything even if it is brand new. And, I don't think the saw has been used that much looking at the finish on the muffler. See what the piston looks like. Photo would be nice. If it has scratches, send it back if you can. That's a premium price seems to me and it should be top notch.

this is why i like coming here, i got so stuck on the appearence so badly i overlooked pulling the muffler.

the piston shot got kind of blurred out but there are some light marks on the piston.

No such thing on ebay now as "no returns"..
dont matter what the ad says..

I know there was a flash but that piston looks awfull shiny. I think I would be having a talk with the seller.

Yup, if it's covered under the buyer protection then you can send it right back. The piston does'nt look too bad in the photos. i would make the guy send me the cash back for a new cap, oil cap, and set of piston rings. If he can't do that then contact Ebay. Thats waayyy too much to pay for a saw in that shape. You can't just rush into a buy on Ebay. I know you say you needed it right then but still, thats too much cash to take a chance on a saw.

Spacemule would have a fit if he seen that oil cap the way it's been "screnched" to death.

I bought this 660 on Ebay for 700 and picked it up local. On it's third tank of fuel when I got it. Wait for the right deal!

The saw has quite a few issues for a "good running saw." No air filter on a "good running saw?" The wording he used sounds as though he was careful not reveal much about the actual condition of the saw. When in doubt, ask plenty of detailed questions.

Send the seller a full list of the issues that you've found, & see if he'll work with you for a partial refund and/or all missing and broken parts. If he won't budge insist on returning the saw for a full refund.

Good luck.

yeah i know i rushed into that one, i've been watching the 660's on ebay and local for a while now, last time one was up for sale local was probably 3-4 months ago. the sad part is i had a bad feeling as soon as i hit that bid button then hoped someone would out bid me. at this point i'm kicking myself for not picking the one off the dealers shelf. at this point i'm leaning more toward sending the saw back and continuing the hunt for a better saw.
