Yeah, him owning a Stihl period is enough to throw up the flags where I'm concerned :biggrinbounce2: Seriously, I bet it fetches some major sizable coin.

Done.

Good catch.

Actually, this is the same guy I've reported numerous times before. He highjacks someone's account and lists using the same description every time. Personally, I like where it says, "and a certified warranty that lasts until March of '07!" Nobody seems to care, and they just bid.

I wonder how many of the bidders are real.

Look at this item and you tell me if it seems kosher.

A one day listing and all the red flags flying at full mast.

Burn his email up

What made you think this one was a fraud? I couldn't see that this was a one day item, how do find that out? The bid history is only from one day but that could just mean that the bidding did not start until the end. Other than that there was no information I saw on the page that indicated a 1 day auction.

I am just curious what sent up the red flags for you as I would have looked at it as not very swift seller.

I did notice the Mar 07 warranty. I also noticed that the seller listed a bunch of things that would go with the saw, bar oil, oil, extra chain, manuals, cover . Then said that all items included in the sale were in the picture..... None of the extras are in the pic.

  • Wanted to contact about payment before he would accept a bid--what do you bet he would try to get payment before you bid, thus negating ebay's responsibility? Notice he talks about a "buy it now," but there is not a buy it now in the auction. That means a buy it now price would not be going through the ebay system.
  • few feebacks, all as a buyer
  • one day auction on a high dollar item--high dollar items are usually left on longer to attract a higher price
Those are the things that send up red flags to me. It's easy to determine one day auctions. If the auction has the sun icon by it, that means it's less than 24 hours old. If the auction has that icon and is ending in less than 24 hours, that means it's a one day auction.

Yeah, I reported it also, actually before I posted it here. We all get credit for stopping his lame attempt.

Guess who sent me a nasty gram about what I could do with a certain part of his anatomy?

Masiman- Go to ebay and read the links on there about how to prevent fraud and how to pick up on the cues for a scam auction. This one may as well have had a flashing red warning message telling you to just throw your money into the garbage disposal!

Anyone want to bet on a Western Union money transfer to Romania because of a sick relative? How about the old" I am traveling overseas and my paypal account was compromised, I can't access my messages on eBay, my dog tells me to kill people, just send me money because I think that you are a stupid American capitalist pig dog yadda yadda"

Thanks spacemule. I am leary of ebay as a whole. Nice subtleties you pointed out.

Read the anti fraud stuff that eBay has posted on their site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Especially read the comments posted by some of the scammers.

Even if it wasn't a scam, trying to entice someone into dealing off of eBay after listing the item on their site is a violation of the rules. The site would probably be alot better if everyone followed the rules eh?

Caution must be used anytime that you engage in a transaction on eBay with other than an established reputable seller, read up on it, and then read some more. Money is what it is, but I still hate to just throw it away!

Reporting fraud auctions

Are you guys using the Report link at the bottom of the auction page, or some other means to contact them about a suspected fraud auction or hijacked account?

eBay seems to be on top of things like that when they are reported, but if there is a better method........................

You can see if it is a one day auction by being signed in to the site, and clicking the little listing and payment details button a little under the picture of the item in the top left corner of the auction page. This will tell you right off if it is a one day auction.

Yes sir. It's the only way to get a timely response, though you got to hunt for the "email us" link when you get to the suggestions page.

Yeah, thats the odd part.

If you dont realize you have to click the Email us link it wont do any good but it seems like you did what you should have.

I dont even put a message in the email, you allready lay it out for them Via the dropdown menus.
