A very reputable store in my little town has started carrying Efco saws. I am in the market for a moderate duty saw and like working with the people there, but am not familiar with the brand. I've found a few mentions of Efco's on this site, mostly in passing, but couldn't really find anything directly, other than one post on the Efco 951. I'm looking to cut up various fallen hardwoods on my sister-in-law's land, mostly for non-essential firewood in my own home. Few of the trees I'd mess with are greater than 16-18" in diameter.

Thanks
Thornton

They make good products from everything I've heard. Never run one, though.

Most of their line-up looks good, but at least on paper there are two standouts - the 40cc looks like a good little saw, the 62cc looks like it has a good power-to-weight ratio and would make an excellent all-around saw.

That's right, but tests by DLG have shown that the 56 cc version really is slightly down in power, and up in weight, compared to the specs.

Even if this also applies to the 62 cc version, it will have a decent power to weight ratio though....

The only complaints I have seen about the current Emak saws (Efco (earlier Olympyk), Oleo-Mac and John Deere), are the anti-vibe and fit/finish.

Hi,
I have a Emak(Cub Cadet CS50-18) and really love it. Never really thought that the anti-vibe was bad. Works quite well no problems so far. Thanks

I have (or had, it's on permenant loan with some extended family) a 5018 and it was, without a doubt, the best bargain on a new saw I've ever found. I picked it up just shy of $150.

Let me see.... 5018 or Wildthing which one do I choose:bang:

The AV problems have mostly been overcome on this generation of Efcos. They were more of a problem on the larger, saws of 5 or so years ago.
