Many of the people who criticize electric saws have never used one. Or they have used the $30 ones from a 'big-box' store. What would they expect from a $30 gas saw?
P.S. - the first STIHL saw was electric.

Yeah we have a Makita plug in saw. I forget the model but it was a ~$500 saw. It's weird using it when used to a gas powered saw! The chain spits for quite a while after letting off the power switch.
Newer electric saws have electric chain brakes, as well as the manually operated ones.
One of my battery saws will 'chirp' if I try to press the trigger with the chain brake engaged.
