Just a suggestion:

This site needs a comprehensive FAQ sticky. The one that was up on this page has come and gone but it was pretty random as far as how the info was displayed, it needs to be like an A-Z listing.

Another board I read is Pirate4x4.com in those forums it is a requirement to read the FAQ before you post a new topic. If you post a common subject question without searching you will be FLAMED without regard to your personal feelings.

Even for the lurker those FAQ's can be invaluable as it is an encyclopedia of model specific 4x4 info.

Browse this for an example:

I have observed that this forum has had a pretty harsh undertone lately and I think the tempers would be cooled if we could limit the common thread questions.

And I am no saint here as I have posted a common question on this site for which I regret. I now know how to use the google advanced search.

I think the addition of a good FAQ section might not be a bad thing. There are a lot of people who sign up to the site with a question, ask a question, only to be told to search for the answer, when many of them didn't even know that there is a search function, or at least did not make an attempt to search. I think everyone is perhaps a bit guilty of this in their first few posts on the site (unless they've been lurking in the shadows enough to see the trends and get the message).

The key is for the FAQ to have just the right amount of information but not have so much information and so many entries that people are too lazy to go through it and start posting.

The creation of a comprehensive faq section for even just for simple stuff would be a massive undertaking.

I think it's a good idea though and with cooperation it could be a big help to site visitors, etc.

From a site economics perspective, it could reduce bandwidth and also attract new visitors.

The idea has been bounced around before, and I think the killer is the time
it would involve.
I would think that there are enough "dead" forums here, to justify a
FAQ forum, and the thing could be moderated by a few "knowledgable"
members here so it wouldn't be too time consuming.
The "mods" could start the threads, and allow only posts that added to or were beneficial to the topic. The forum would only be populated with
genuine FAQ topics, so the number would be controlled, maybe have one thread dedicated to faq suggestion topics.
I have dedicated some thought and booze to this, and would be glad to
donate some time to make it work.....

Thall may help, if you guys massage his massive EGO enough, but you need
to massage him slowly at first, then.......

Well, that is another "sticky"...............

new here myself, and new to any BB(?) 'cepting the horrid craigslist rants and raves. kudos first of all for a great site to begin with. and the hard part has been to figure has been reps and picture posting. faq's and off topic researched, and still not too good at it. and ifn' I lurked, it was in trying to figure stuff out (like did I thank so and so for that rep), it wont happen again.
