What's everybody's favorite climbing rope

3 strand
12 strand
16 strand

I use 16 strand saftey blue and hi-vee with a nice tight blakes hitch

I like the idea that if I cut into my line I'll see the blue core.

What!!!

If you cut that far into your rope you will probaly cut all of the way through. You do realize that with the new ANSI Z133 you MUST have a second means of support if you are using a chainsaw in the tree?

Rather than relying on the color of the core of your rope to let you know you are cutting too close to your rope, just keep your cutting tools away from your rope.

Tom

Yes I know about the ANSI Z133, and yes I do have a second means of support while useing a chainsaw in a tree. And yes I keep an eye on my ropes and make sure my cutting tools don't cut them. Maybe I should say that in the unlikely event that I nick my line with a sharp object, the last thing I see before I hit the ground will be the blue core.:blob2:.... Well, I hope it doesn't come to that. What I meant by my comment is that if something happens to my fall line that I don't see, I will hopefully catch it before it gets to my hitch because of the blue core visible through the cut. :)

Good [with a sigh of relief...Whew!]

There are some climbers who would not retire a rope until the guts are hanging out. Even then they might just wrap the cut up with duct tape and keep going...

Tom

Hey Tom, I've seen people do all sorts of awful things to their lifeline. I prefer using my lifeline for supporting my ASS and using a handline for all other purposes. I have NO qualms about retiring a lifeline when I have ANY doubt about internal stress or external wear. My ass is worth more than a $90 chunk of rope. Once a lifeline is delegated to handline, I never use it as a lifeline again. It is not capable of healing.

My most hated rope experience was when I bought a new lanyard once cause I had nicked my old one ($35+). The next day, I nicked my BRAND NEW one worse than the one I had just replaced! But my ass is STILL worth more than $35, so I cut the clips off and threw it away. I have a nice collection of extra clips now.

Yeah its "funny" how guys wont throw things away. I find it interesting how your life is at stake and some will throw a hunk of junk up in the tree. This guy, who will be nameless, from one of the manicipalities here in Denver has a saddle that is held together by 2 bolts where the saddle has broke apart. Now that is crazy. He says he started climbing in it and he is gonna finish in it.

Probably sooner than he expects.

Brian, I know what you mean about the old clips. I've got a bunch of those too, most of them from before that safety catch was required. I'm not sure why I'm saving them. It just seems a waste to throw them away. BTW, I did the exact same thing with a new lanyard a while back. I tied a knot in it where the cut was and kept using it for a few days, then I realized, "What am I doing? Its only $35."

I use both High-Vee and XTCplus.
High-Vee has a nice soft feel but tends to get wooly with time. XTC is tighter and slightly rigid, but lasts longer. Do you guys agree?

You're going to need more than one opinion, Sean. My address is on file too, and 120 foot lengths should do it. :D

Well, we've already had the rope field tested, but since I'm such a nice guy, I'll make you a special deal: I'll give ya a free hank of our new rope with the purchase of 5 GRCS's. Deal? :D

Hey Sean,

It think I've got it, the acronym GRCS's stands for:

G-give away
R- ropes
C-'cause
S-Sean
s- says so

I'll take all 3.

Thanks, I'll be expecting them in the mail, hopefuly before Christmas.
Mike
