Pro fallers that are limbing and firewood sport cutters like yourselves are worlds apart,,:notrolls2:

What do you do in the meantime before that 260 is done with the cut if you have a 24" bar on it? Lock it with tape at full throttle and go for a coffe break? :hmm3grin2orange:

heck some days I do everything with the 372 cut it down, cut the big pieces and limb the little stuff into 10 foot long pieces. It is a lot faster than my rancher:rock:

Come across the pond and work with me for one day my friend... you'll be glad those longer bars are on those saws.

Like I've said a thousand times... You just won't understand, until you come over here and try.

I am tall as well... longer bars means less bending. Have you ever stood on a HUGE Doug Fir and limbed it as you walked on it? Puny-azz 20" bar on an 044 ain't gonna get the job done my friend. Now a 28" or 32" bar will.

You like small stuff cuz you cut small stuff...:bang:

I admit I rarely use that combo for that but was convenient. My 044 28" bar is my normal for that kinda work. Wife's 260 only has 20" bar 032,20 "bar 019t only has 14" bar. Usually Limb with what I fall with. 032 drag it out for old times sake. It is in great condition runs great but my 044 tells me I don't need a lighter smaller saw. Its the perfect all around saw and thats why they've sold so many over the past 16+ years. Its a PNW thing.

So what’s your (2 saw only) chainsaw pick? Specifically for: felling, and bucking trees up to 3’(mostly 2’) in diameter. Usage would not be heavy, say 4 trees per month. Looking also to cut the stump off at ground level so you could be faced with 4’ plus in diameter.

Since I picked up my 660 earlier this year, I don't reach for the 036 much at all. 660 gets it all done - faster, easier, less hassle. Felling, limbing, bucking, stumping. If I pick up the 036 it just means I have to set it down to finish the job. Not so with the 660. Sure its a little extra weight but the work is faster, I'm not bending over, and I'm not cussin' the saw for cutting slow on the stump.

If it were all small stuff, sure, I'd grab the 036 or MS 200T. I do when I'm in the tree. On the ground with logs 2 foot and over as specified above - 660. Basically anything 440 and up should be the go to saw and no need to switch out. I don't have a 440 or 460, so default to the 660. Run the 28" to 36" bars and go to work! If I were only cutting firewood, different story.

OK, it's a PNW thing but if you necessarily need such long bars, then at least have a 60cc saw to pull them, or better 70cc. But 24" on a 260 must be soooooooooooooooooo slow!
In Sweden I'd say you can distinguish the pro from the amateur sometimes by the bar size. Pro: short bar, often 13"-15". More is not needed if you know the proper felling techniques (trees are rarely bigger than 2 * bar size) . You get a faster, lighter, cheaper, smaller saw, with smaller bar.

Recent cutting include 60" poplar ,48" catalpa 40" pine, 36" and 32" Doug Fir 38" maple 40" and 32" cedar. Thats why I like long bars and big saws. 1 cut I am done. The 41" bar is cumbersome but I only put it on when I am cutting really big stuff. 32" is fine and 28" is handy. I have dragged these up and down hills thru brush and swamps.

Hope you come back out here next year Rat. I'll definately be at the Sequim show.:D

I just murdered a 40" dbh Doug Fir yesterday. 32" bar on the 044... nuttin' to it mang!

Try that combo on some ash or oak of similar size. You'll wish you had a bigger saw!

My 441 pulls 28'' through ash pretty well, but that's the biggest I'd want to go.

Update, 346xp (New Edition - 50cc) and 372xp from Husly, or PS5100S and 7900 from Dolmar if the wood is a bit larger.
No real Stihl options, as they lack a good 50cc saw, and anything except the 361 and 660 seem a bit "sluggish" - but 361 and 660 if the wood is much larger.......

:D :D

I can't remember if you said you had run the 441 yet? I'll tell ya, it sure doesn't seem "sluggish" to me.
