I dunno if you guys have run into the following issue during the lean winter months. I have had two people in the last month call me out to look at large land clearing jobs and expect me to do this for free. Free. I just get to keep the wood. I had to sit on a copper pig for one of these gents. Now, I come to find out there are hacks out there clearing land just for the wood. Does anybody feel like breaking your back to turn 99 cents into $1?

I myself am guilty of working for a little bit less during the winter but this is crazy right?

The property owners will get full value for the money they spend on land clearing.

Additional perks scheduled for delivery that they may not have considered:

No scheduled date of completion
No liability protection
No identifiable culprit when things go badly!
Branches scattered all over in a hopeless tangle.
Stumps cut high
Weed trees not removed
Underbrush left standing except where it was more convenient to cut down than wade through.
Large, difficult to split forks left abandoned where they fall.
Tire ruts
Trash and dumping from unregulated access.
Oil & fuel spills not cleaned up.

There is always going to be someone that will do the job far cheaper than you. There are people out there on the consumer side of the biz that simply don't care about professionalism, insurance, licenses etc, and no matter what you do to show them otherwise, it will not change anything.

Funny and so true! my guess is that they start out looking like banshees, cutting down the stuff they want, and then fade into then above scenario after that..

Do you want to work, and eat? :(
doesn't make them hacks for doing what it takes to make $$.
land clearing aint rocket science like residential removals over structure.
by copper pig you mean a still? I remember them days well. well sort of.....:dizzy:

Its a weird trade thats for sure.

I had a guy whos excavator pushed over 9 pine trees, fairly large! all he did was criss cross them & drive their 20 foot limbs into the owners ground, the stumps are still partially attached!

I give him a bid to chip on site, remove the wood (useless pine) & to finish getting the stumps out (backhoe) & taken away! told em when we`re done you wont know we were here. Well.....Joe cool tries to burn them (country setting) pine dont burn!!!!! so now what he has is 9 pine trees with no needles & enough soot on them to make one look like they cleaned out a chimney!!

after re-meeting with him & spying this mess...I added $2000.00 on to the price....you should of seen that reaction......as a matter of fact I started filming it on my blackberry it was so funny!!! when he saw me filming he quit but I told him I would cherrish his reaction for along time to come!

point is............its not as easy as they think! they just dont want to spend the money!...........TOO BAD!!!!

LXT.................

by copper pig I meant the old man literally had a copper pig in his living room named "Neddy" he insisted that I sit on by his side. Felt awkward so I just straddled it.
