Yeah...thats what I'm gonna consider it. Tulip Poplar. Its not heavy at all.

You will know when it is seasoned, ash will be heavy and tulip poplar will be paper light. I always like tulip poplar for starting fires in the fireplace, can almost light it with a match.
 
Doggone that sure does look like some kind of maple. The dark stripe in the center is what all my maple looks like. The wood is also a nice white color, not stringy and it pops, maple does the very same thing when split. My vote is maple also.
 
Besides poplar has a greenish tint in the middle. Nothing like that in the photos.
