Wouldn’t it make more sense to get the most accurate reading by first bringing the piece inside for a day or two to get to room temp and THEN split it and check right away....?

VS’s splitting and then bringing inside to warm up. ...

I am not sure who you are answering.

MM's reportedly have issues with frozen wood but otherwise the temp does not matter.
