Yet another firewood saw thread! I'm looking to pick up a used firewood saw. I think I know what I want. Someone convince me to get something other than a 5100!:D I'll probably only cut a few cords per year, more if a hurricane blows through. Anyone have a lead on a saw for sale?

No point in that really, if you aren't conserned with service and parts availability.

I believe the 5100 isn't really comparable to any other saw. It should outcut any other 50 cc saw, but it also is heavier than most of them - while it doesn't have the grunt of the better 60 cc saw in larger wood, but is lighter than them.

To put it another way, it is about midway between a 346xp and a MS 361 in both max power output, max torque, weight and power to weight ratio.

RB, I haven't been to Hampton since late 80's. Is it still growing? it was a mad house then late 80's compared to when i went to school there at Spratley Jr in the 70's. Wouldn't mind taking a vacation there and fishing a couple of the piers again.

How many people were here then? There are 146437 people according to the 2000 census. I am close to Gosnolds Park, and pass by Spratley every day for work. Spratley is a year round school, and they have to wear uniforms. If you're planning a trip to the area shoot me a pm beforehand. Where did you fish?

Actually there is a servicing dealer 4 miles from the house. And there is always the internet and the fine folks here at AS! The Stihl dealer said they could work on it, but couldn't get parts themselves.

Year round and uniforms, Yikes. Glad I am not there now. Numbers of people, haven't a clue. But I remember when it was all woods around the school, last time there it had roads through everything. No skipping school woods anymore. :biggrinbounce2:
I used to hit buckroe pier, one on fort monroe, and some across the ches bay. The memory is just not all there on the names of piers anymore. Brain is like a old small hard drive, think it deleted some of the material in storage, so it could store new stuff.
Used to go on a boat with a guy called triple B for his boat name, that was a neighbor

Here is a pic of the school and surrounding neighborhood. Not much woods at all! They just rebuilt Buckroe pier, and the Ft Monroe pier after Isabel came through. The whole Buckroe area has been renovated. Really nice beach now.

From reviewing the population stats the 80s were a booming time. There were half as many houses built in the 90s as in the 80s. There were about 122k people as per the 1980 census. I suspect that they started to run out of room to build new houses, otherwise it would have continued the same way that surrounding cities have.
