BTW: I used to have big problems with my old spurs digging into the wood and then taking serious muscles to yank them back out of the wood. Loose spurs were a really big problem when you are yanking upward with every step.

When I got geckos, that problem went away. I believe that they stick into the tree easier because they are so sharp. Then they have fairly wide angle on a not very large (cross section) gaff. The end result is that you need not stomp into the tree to climb with confidence, and then your gaff does not act like a nail stuck in a tree.

Subtle changes can make a big difference in your climbing comfort.

I like this post,, all our guys like them and although expensive, a happy climber is a productive climber, (usually),.
Speaking of Gecko's, how many of you had to replace the pad's ? How long did the velcro last since new until now?
Expensive to replace those too, and I did a couple that was a real PITA. If you mess up one of the big rivet's, you will have a hard time finding that size.
It was a kinda beautiful day!

Yeah, that is a problem as well, I am not very heavy, so I cant just set them down, gotta stabem. Then, as you said, gotta yankem back out. Hurts the knees. Just need to break down and get a set of geckos. What you just described, just sold me. Thinking of a big order, new geckos, that new tree motion light saddle and a Kask. Bout a G worth, just gotta convince the boss lady.

To the OP, sorry for the HiJack!

I started with climb rights and I couldn't get that fat gaff to stick no matter how hard i kicked. Old kleins now and they stick like that sometimes.
Just buy her some new shoes and enjoy the comfort in ur new gear while she complains how bad her feet hurt crammed in those heels!

I use the European style gaffs on my Geckos and I have not experienced that they will get stuck. And they grab really good also. Not having to "kick in" the gaffs.
