Hey Everyone!
Ive been lurking here a bit lately and I figured id join in on the fun. I got a mill a few weeks ago and have milled a few things but finally milled my first real "project" the past few days. My Dad needed a bridge on his farm to get over to a shed thats going to be used as a milking barn for goats. I cut down 3 Hackmatacks (Tamaracks, American Larch) and made the entire 20 foot foot bridge out of the three trees. Was pretty neat that the whole thing came from trees within 60 yards of where it is now laying. I left the boards live edge I think it looks more natural and unique. Its not fastened together and itll get cut down about 8 inches and squared up later. Im using a stihl 044 and a 24 inch mill. The saw felt it a bit in the larger boards that went roughly 16 inches. This saw was given to me so its what I have but im looking at upgrading to something in the 85cc+ range. I came accross this today and cant figure out if its a scam. What do you guy think? Im hesitant to post it because if it is real it seems like a rare and good deal. I dont want it snatched from under me but im just not experienced enough in stihl saws to know if its a $1000 investment worth taking...
Thanks!

NEW 070 STIHL

Good looking wood. regarding the 070, I doubt it is a scam, but as far as being worth the money it sort of depends on where it was made and what you want to do with the saw. I think they are still in production in brazil but only available in some thrd world markets so that is one way it could be a new saw. A less likely way would be if it is a german made saw and some one stashed it away, in which case it would have a bit of collector value. Another way it coule be a new saw is if it is a chinese made saw available through Baileys. If you look on their web site you will see that all the parts for an 070 can be purchased and you could build a new saw that way. When they first started making the repro parts they even sold the saw as an unassymled kit. The parts are made in china but they are supposed to be high quality and exact replacements for stihl parts.

The only difference between an 090 and an 070 is the piston and cylinder and the clutch, so for the 1K and a few C notes for a new P&C and you would have a 2k saw that will mill anything you ever want to mill. FYI the 070 is 106cc and an 090 is 137cc.

Another way to look at is is how much woud it cost to buy any other brand new 100cc saw?

Welcome aboard MMm that sure is nice grain.

RE: 070
BlueRider has pretty well covered it.
Even though a new 070 would be fun for a while, personally I'd be putting the $1000 towards a used 880 or 084.

Thanks guys. I figured unless you are a stihl fanatic it'd probably be best to buy something a little more "generic"... Id love to get my hands on a 880... I've been searching all the local craigslist pages for a while and haven't seen a 880 yet. A few 660s around also husky 395xp saws. Ill come up with something. Until then it's 044 all the way!

Nice bridge. I would keep an eye on the classifieds here. I would also think about having a good woods port done on a milling saw for some extra grunt. I have a stihl 064 that tree monkey ported for me that I think would be an excellent milling saw.
