+2 There are so many threads on here that you can spend forever with the search function. You guys have helped me out a lot tonight. Thanks again as always.

Guess I'll dig it back up to ask how that JB is holding up.

This thread is on it's second page. Hope you don't back down now and decide not to go through with the rebuild. I have too much time invested here now to not see it go forward.:D Don't forget pics......

But I have to ask......

Why are you splitting the crankcase????????

Just to replace a pto seal?

How do you know you need a new seal????

There is no going back at this point, I bought too many new parts to turn back now! I want this baby to run and look brand new, it's the CAD and OCD coming together to make this happen. The first picture is how it looked after I put the new piston in it, and then I couldn't get it to idle right, the ohter two were taken last night. I have all of the chain brake oiler etc. off of the saw now, all that is left is to split the case.

I had an air leak in the clutch side seal, pressure tested the case by way of the impulse nipple, a couple of barbed fittings and some careful placement of ductape. Soap bubbled the seal and sure enough. I want to split the case for the learning experience and plus there is a bit of body work I want to do to the saw and I thought it would be better to split it and know it is good when it's done. I have a habbit of taking the hard road, plus the saw was given to me for nothing and I would really like to go all the way with it.

I tried a piece of unistrut tonight and it worked great. I didn't even have to drill any holes or do any cutting, very happy with the results. The bar studs actually fit perfectly in the strut holes.

Now I have to clean her up, fill the pitting and paint and then wait for mjy parts to come in from Bailey's and my local dealer.

Nice job! Today I got a piece of steel and got my holes drilled to make my splitter. I am going to wait to do mine until my parts come.

Search powder coating and you'll come up with some good threads and Redneck ideas there as well. if you're gonna go all the way....go all the way first class.

I have some Ford gray tractor paint as well as a can of new Kubota orange both by Valspar. I also picked up some metal filler to fix the pitting on the bottom rails of the crankcase.

Your half way there or just at least your case is split in half..:D

Thanks for pics keep them coming even though it's a pain to take pics of progress as you do the work.

When all done with the saw, come down to Roxbury and buck up some downed trees to test your saw and so that I can have campfire wood ready for memorial day weekend.:greenchainsaw: Oh Yea bring the quad to drag them closer to the firepit.
