looks good glad to see your running a climbing line with friction hitch. and it looks like your working line is run nicly also for lowing some branches good pictures. be safe.

oldirty,

I haven't used my 3 clip flipline yet, that 3rd clip is annoying me just looking at it. If I leave it hang it will catch, if I loop it back it will catch. Thinking about just cutting it off and using it like a regular flipline.

I took a look at some mods. I already added a second D, but don't split tail climb at the moment. I will try it sometime and maybe switch over.

My saddle actually says Dragonfly on it, but has the Butterfly leg straps. I was at Fresco and he had to rig it this way because he didn't have any large Butterflies in stock.

I have tried other "batten seats" (I think I said it right) and liked them in the store. After using the Butterfly I have found that I don't sit for very long so I don't usually have a need for it.

I can't live without the mobility of the legstraps now. I may replace the stock bridge with something tougher. I will keep my eye on it.

I have re-adjusted the leg straps because I almost lost a nut. Hopefully loosening them up a little will help.

Have a merry Christmas guys!

I climb with two different flips as well. I use a .5"x15' 2 in 1 with a prusik and a .75"x20' wire core with a macro. I use the wire core for 75% of my work, but that 2 in 1 has saved my ass a couple of times. i hate the prusik though. Adjustability isnt what it could be. I climb with a split tail and slack tender as well. I am comfy with my rig and the added weight isnt of any concern to me. I am weighing in at 225 lbs. right now. I have a very plain saddle as well though, just a weaver double d with leg straps. It isnt that comfy compared to some of the rigs I have seen, but it has tool attachments and gets me around the tree when I need it to.

As for the remark that the 15' 2 in 1 isnt big enough.... I beg to differ. I climb a lot of giant redwoods almost daily and I have never wanted a bigger one.
A .5" flip doesnt have the weight needed to flip those trees. Hince the .75" x 20' wire core. Just my 0.02 cents. I wouldnt really spend alot of money on long flips that are that small in diameter. They dont work for the trees (( I )) climb.

Nice pics nails......

adjustability is not what it should be indeed. but i am thinkn that adding the pulley to it will help. i am talking about the 2n1 flipline. accessory cord, dog snap, and pulley is going to be the trick. and then the same thing will happen to my splittail set up so that it self tend when pulling myself up the rope.

THANK YOU DONNYO for that.

you are missing out on the saddle though man. i know it "functions" well for you and your work but once you sit in the love seat known as the dragonfly you do not know what you are missing.

i actually just put together a "new" flipline with the gibbs from a retired 8ft steelcore and 20ish ft of 9/16th new england rope that i would use at random times in the tree for an extra tip. i think now that if i add this to the system i am running with the i wont need an extra tip if i have four ways to secure my self to the tree. lol (lifeline, 2n1, and 20ft rope flip)

it'll definitely bring a smile to my face if i ever need 4 TIP in a tree though cause that would be a first.

merry xmas

oh ya.

nails dont cut that flipline up. on my side D i leave the one that will never be unsnapped in the middle (prussic rope snap). so that when i look at the 3 snaps on my hip i know exactly which is which. but probably tomw its coming off the belt so i can spray paint it red.

i hear ya on the pain of getting it caught up is but yo uwill hate yourself if you cut it and you need it in the tree the next day.

Yeah, I guess I won't cut it. Think I will paint the clip though. I will have to spend some time with it like all new equipment. You are right, I probably will kick myself. Thanks for setting me straight oldirty.

Gear

I use a nice heavy duty full iron workers harness, padded and has ring on the back in case i need to be "picked off" a tree in a rescue mode. I'm a search and rescue technician and certified on ropes. I use wire core 5/8" fliplines for safety and ease of placement. Only solid steel locking carabiniere and descenders/ascenders. Not confident about my breakaway saw lanyard when it comes to trusting my 200t from getting trashed but hasn't broke prematurely yet and it's a must considering the alternative of being hung on a falling limb. I prefer 13mm kernmantle static line for both handling and works better with ascenders. At all times I try and maintain two points of safety. Climbing is a last resort as my 80ft Snorkel lift (4x self propelled w/8ft basket) is the safest way i've found to get around at heights, telescoping booms have full horizontal reach, I find knuckle booms are a pain. Also use a boom crane to float material, no damaged lawns and straight onto truck/trailer.

True, most of the time 15' would be enough. But there will be a day when he needs just a little bit more, so he's standing straight up on his gaffs to reach and suddenly gaffs out and takes a fun little ride. Besides, setting up a one hand slack tender on the 2 in 1 and with that prussic is a pita. Two flips are better.

A .5" flip doesnt have the weight needed, for me to flip those trees. Hince the 5/8" x 20' wire core.

I think we were saying the same thing for the most part. I am sorry if I didnt explain my remarks thoroughly. Anyway, Have a safe new year everyone...

I use an 8 foot steelcore. When its too short i'll just tie the end of my life line between my lanyard and the side dee ring to make up the difference. I'd like to get a 10 footer but cant imagine climbing with anything bigger than that. Most of the trees i climb are less than 48" DBH.

nails. i hate that stupid 2n1 3strand flipline. thing sucks, you need two hands to advance it and the prussic itself binds up way too much.

i finally got that 20ft ropeflip put together and on the saddle the way i need it. so that 2n1 can kiss my azz. it'll be in the bottom of my rign/rope bag if anyone needs it.

its on to 2 separate fliplines if i need more than one in the tree.

good luck with yours. lol

Used a bungee tool strop once. Never again. I found that as you try to reach to do an difficult cut the strop pulls the saw out of position.
cutting should not be difficult, you should go to the work and avoid reach cuts!

if you are looking for new equipment i cant recommend 3 strand. you should use a setup that does not require 2 lanyards, imo. i use the distel hitch on both my climbing line and lanyard and can be tied in twice any time any tree with minimum effort.

Nice pics

I bought a bungee lanyard for my climbing saw a few years back but on cuts where I was reaching way out, it seemed I was fighting the cord.

I go 2 flips. I go standard 3 strand on my gibbs, but I use my distal knot and micro pulley for the second line and that one is 150' long (I know I'm going to hear it.) I use my climb line as a flip line until I come down. Some guys don't think it's a good idea because it uses up your line fast, but I get company rope for one, and second I am already hauling up that rope might as well use it!
