Let the saw idle for a few more minutes with low weight (5w-30 or so) motor oil in it. My craftsman (poulan 2250) saw did the same thing and after running for 10 minutes or so it oils great. Although...I did let it sit overnight with the oil in it after being frustrated it wasn't oiling the first couple minutes of use, then ran it the next day for 2-3 minutes and its fine now. Maybe let it sit overnight with low weight oil in it.

Scott. Thanks. But I found some stuff that did a remarkable job on rust. It's called Evaporust. Only problem is it took the sort of "Blueing" or whatever the coating is that's on the muffler to begin with, so I had to paint it with some 1200 degree exhaust paint. Looks ok, don't know how well it will hold up. I'll post pics of before and after when I get a chance.

On to a new subject. I got this little green 2150 and have been fixing it up. I've already spent more than I wanted to, but on Sunday I was ready to test it out. Needed new fuel lines of coarse, a new gas filler cap because the original was leaking. I spent about 13 dollars on the bar cover that goes with the Poulan case that the lady couldn't find... Anyway, I fired it up and it sounds like it's tuned pretty good. Idles and responds well. BUT... I got no oil coming out to the chain.

I searched and found a few oiling suggestions on here I will have to try, but what I did already was put some gas in the oil tank, after dumping the oil, and fired it up and at first nothing, then after running WOT for a few seconds, I got a little gas flowing. I blew the area with compressed air and got a lot of gas to come out the hole with the air, so I figured I was ok. Put the oil back in and got a very small amount to trickle out. Ran it a few seconds on WOT and still a very small amount. I did do a little test on a stump I had been wanting to use this on and no more stump in no time, so I hope if I can get this oiler working, it'll be a good little "stumper" saw...

I would like to take it apart and see if there is gummy stuff which I suspect in the gears or something. I looked and the parts to replace both inside and outside oiler stuff is like $12.00. Looks like not a lot of money to replace the whole thing if necessary, but how do you get the clutch and sprocket off to access the area? Looks like I need a special tool or something. Any hints or suggestions?

What is involved with replacing the oiler on a Poulan? Is it going to be one of those 3 or 4 hour things that I wish I had not started, or should it be a 15 to 30 minute job, sort of no big deal? Thanks.

WildnCrazyGuy,

I had the EXACT same issue with a Poulan 2025 that was given to me. The 2025/2050/2150 all share many parts. The previous owner was going to throw it away since it wasn't oiling so I said I would take it.

To change the Oiler, you will need a new oiler:

Find your part number here: http://www.odref.com/poulan/pdf/poulan/gas-saws/index.html

I believe it is P/N 530071259, but double check that. I paid $8 at www.partstore.com

You will also need a Poulan Clutch Tool and Piston Stop.

I got my clutch off without the piston stop but it was a pain. After that, you need some needle nose pliers and a philips head screwdriver. Pull the screws and use the pliers to pull the white plastic "T" that connects to the tubing and makes the turn into the bar oil tank. Gently jiggle the oiler off the saw. Inspect the spring on the shaft and see it is still okay. I replaced the spring they use as a worm gear on mine but it was a ROYAL PAIN! I wouldn't do it again unless the spring was visibly damaged.

If your problem is like mine, the plastic gear in the old oiler housing will be damaged.......flattened out by I assume the gear getting jammed with debris. As soon as the plastic starts to wear, the oiler gear doesn't mesh and no more oil. I installed the new oiler and it seems to work perfectly. I'm waiting for my new bar and chain to show up in the mail.

I bought a few things that weren't absolutely necessary (chain brake assembly, new bar, new chain) to get the saw running again but all in all, I got a saw for $8 when I didn't have a saw to begin with.

PM me for any questions!

Zuren , did your saw have the dust seal (item46) shown on page 3 of the 2025 IPL ?

Did exactly as you described today. Works like a charm. I've got oil coming out and it's like it won't quit. No worries. It works just like the other 3 Poulan's I've worked on recently. They oil great. When this one didn't flow, I was like, this ain't right. I tore it apart last night and cleaned up the oiler very well. Got it moving again and thought that would be my fix. Still nothing, so I headed to the Poulan store today and got a replacement part. Mine was less than 12.00, but I've ordered from Ordertree.com last month and was charged over 9.00 for shipping for a fuel line, filter and choke lever.

So, thanks for the heads up. Got it working. Just as you described.

No, there was not a seal on the saw when I took it apart and nothing came with the oil pump.

My new part didn't come with the seal either and when I tried to put the old one on it, the seal didn't quite fit right, so I left it off. When I got the seal to fit in the hole, the gear part inside is made a little different and made the seal bulge. Didn't look right, so I figured if/when it gets gummed up with junk again, somewhat an easy and inexpensive fix. I'm thinking because it's made a little different, that it may not need a seal. Looks like it won't let anything in that side of the gear the way it is made, so, keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, wait... Part number 46 dust seal. That's the part I was talking about that's like a foam washer. Different all together than what I was talking about above. Also didn't come with my oiler kit. But at least I know what it is now and have a part number for it if I decide to get it. I knew it was for keeping dust out of something...

I promised a before and after pic of the rusted muffler I cleaned up. There was pitting due to the rust, but all the rust came off and a few good coats of high heat paint makes it look pretty good. I cut up a small tree this past weekend and the paint is still looking good. Good sharp chain cuts like butter...
