How do these holes rapidly heal?

They don't or should I say can't. The term "rapid" is interesting, to say the least. Not to mention drilling to "the central core" depending on DBH that could be quite aways in. Also considering that they are IDing decay DNA, that would mean that decay is probably (?) present which would also inhibit compartmentalization, or at least cause a re-direction of effort... if the tree has to compartmentalize the decay and the wound, how much extra energy would be expended? Somebody should send them a link to Dr. Shigho's "A New Tree Biology".
