Hi Doug,

I would have offered some factual info to help out at the Tool Shed, but the moderator Spike has chosen to banish me as well as almost all of the other members of this forum who know what we are talking about. Probably not because we have any clue, but because we may have been frank with some of his regular posters. I don`t get his gig, but he will permanently banish people who can offer something besides arguments and thin skin to the forum, but he merely scolds many who offer nothing but attitude and misinformation, then lets them back in. Maybe it comes down to who pays the annual "voluntary contribution" and who doesn`t.

The "Shed" is full of tools, and it`s usually good for a laugh or two.

Hi Jokers,

Since you moved the thread over to this site nothing has kept Rocky from commenting on the thread, giving us a answer. How would you answer this funny chain related thread?

Hi Rick,

Let me take a stab at it, please excuse me if I bore you with what you already know, but for the sake of trying to be helpful I`ll try to offer a complete answer.

runlong was pretty much right in what he assumed. He can run 3/8 pitch, or probably even .325, as long as the saw sprocket and nose sprocket ,if so equiped, are the same pitch. I am not addressing chain gauge because it`s unrelated and also self explanatory. BTW,3/8, .325, and .375 are all fractional inch designations, no metric here, and of course .375"=3/8". Whomever stated that ".375 sounds metric" may have been having some faint recollection of .325 chain having a metric origin, but .325 is still an inch measurement just the same. Of course not all saws have bars available for multiple pitch options but that`s a different story.

.370 chain is the manufacturing standard for 3/8 Lo Pro, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. .370 is not compatable with standard 3/8 sprockets although it may run smoothly on worn sprockets that have a reduced effective diameter, hence not a true 3/8 pitch any longer. Those worn sprockets really hammer your chains into compliance and rob horsepower also. The different length of .370 is not arbitrary, it is to prevent using true 3/8 pitch chain on equipment not suited for it although manufacturing and wear tolerances may allow some unusual combinations.

As far as different gauges and sprockets are concerned, any chain gauge will run on any sprocket that I know of. That`s pretty obvious on spur sprockets, but rim sprockets are not gauge specific either.

Hope this helped Rick, let me know if I can clarify anything.

FWIW, you could go to the Shed and set them straight.

BTW Rick,

Not everyone at the Shed is a tool. I figured that you already knew that but thought maybe I should emphasize it anyway.

Garden thread

I did not know about any in different with the person in charge of the Garden Site and members of this site. What I do know is I like both Site's.

It is a shame that that you guys can not share your knowledge on saws and tree work on the Garden Site. That Is The Garden Site's Loss.

You guys are good and it shows some times with the Bull-- on some threads that you know it .

I take you guys as friends and have very much respect for all members.I am glad that we have this web site.

To tell the truth I think your Bark is worst than you Bite.Every one of you have a BIG HEART and ready to give a helping hand any time------.Just ALL AMERICAN BOYS(men)

Doug.

Excellent Jokers,

I think I'am up to snuff on the issue now.Just in case they might shoot the messenger,I nominate Fish to take this information to the Tool Shed.

Rick

Rick,

I think you`re right, Fish would be a better messenger since he is actually Spike, or Spike is actually Fish, however you prefer. He could just banish anyone who disagrees with him, LOL.

Doug,

I agree, Butch and Fish do tell it like it is. Hopefully the less experienced or knowledgable at the Shed can sort things out enough to realize this.

BTW, the Husky bar will not fit your Stihl. Sorry. What you might consider as you buy bars and chains is going for something like 20" 3/8 pitch .050 gauge bars and chains where Stihl and Husky have something in common. The chains will be the same number of drive links and will be interchangable.

In returning to the scene of the crime and rereading what I had excerpted from the original thread, I realized that I also retained posts by persons who were not being foolish. I kept their comments to retain the flow of the thread so that it didn`t make any less sense than when posted over there. I apologize if I offended any of you guys who were left in.

Jokers-

What a fine job of assembling materials to present your point here. I too read that tread over at the Shed full of Tools but didnt comment becasue I have no information on Lo-Pro stuff.
Dare I say you would make a fine moderator!?!?! Then you and Fish could really have have at it . Why armed with the title of Moderator, there would be no stopping you!

Why, Thank You Drew! And just between You and I, I would grant members who dazzle me with flattery special consideration. :D

Russ

Thanks Russ-

Between you and I, I will remember to consider the fact that you are willing to grant special consideration to those who show you consideration. (Insert "smiley" of you choice here, I hate 'em).

Hey Russ, jump in the truck and shuffle off to Buffalo, then to Ballinafad. There will be some chainsaw celebrities here, including the Great Gypo and the Quintessential Ed Heard.
Actually it's a surprise party for Rotax Robert and Mryb, seems it's their birthday again.
Be there, or be square.
John

Hi John,

I know that you won`t believe this because I never show, but it`s killing me that I won`t be making it. I`m going to see Disney on Ice, Toy Story 2 instead. I got the first tickets sold in Syracuse for the show, back in October, and my son has been talking about it ever since. Don`t think it would be the right thing to do, to blow it off. Guess I`m square again. Hopefully we can get together in the near future.

Since I was an enforcer defenseman for many years, I am alittle concerned that my son, who is only six, is more interested in figure skating. I hope it`s only because of the festive atmosphere with the lights and music or the girls in the sexy costumes.

Drew, I didn`t know that you are bilingual as well, being able to speak Canadian. Oot=out?

Russ

Yeah I had some crazy Canadian buddies in college a few years back.
I wouldnt worry about your boy, he will figure it oot (out). I too used to play hockey and was a defensive man, lots of box time and that was before I got to my girlfriends hoose!!! Whew, must be quittin time. Have a great weekend all, and Russ, enjoy those sexy costumes just as long their on the ladies ok...

Drew

Hi Russ, that's ok, it's one of those things that a person shouldn't cancel out on. Your son will remember the show and being with his ole Dad for a long time.
The saw races will always be there though. See you next time.
