ok y'all i have a problem. i mostly do view clearing for the rich people in highlands n.c. for my side work. these people want the trees i cut made into firewood cut between 18 and 22 inches. now you all know what happens when you roll logs down hill. i try and make the logs about 5 feet long and muscle them down but the bigger ones are impossible to muscle down. when you roll them its dangerous and they take out anything in there path. luckily there isnt anything down hill but a dirt road were im working all day. so besides choking and dragging them down do you have a suggestion of a safe way to bring em down? thanks

You could set up a speed line, or high line with a haul back line on it to keep things from moving too fast. I've used such systems before and it works well. Good luck.... Mike

It is a rope that is strung from about were the cut is being made and tied off at the base of the tree. A seperate line or sling is attached to the chunk being cut. As it free falls and then hits the vertical line keeps it. There is a good video by Ace Tree called vertical speed line if you do a search it will come up.
