A guy has got it for sale pretty cheap. I don't really need another saw this size but for the money......

Anyone have specs on this saw? Are they a decent saw?

Not sure what I'm going to do with it but you can't have too many saws, right?!?!

fine old saw (20 years).. Not real powerful, no chan brake, but will last (almost) forever.

Wow! that saw is 20 years old? They last that long?

My Jonsered 525 is 20 years old and it's still my favorite saw. Runs like a top and looks better that that one.

028 is a very durable saw,run for years and never let you down.
in the unlikely event something does happen they are also easy to work on.

Like he said. 028s are bulletproof, as any saw can be. Not the most powerful in class but extremely durable and very easy to get parts for. I currently still have two 028 Supers in my running stock. One about 15 years ago tried to commit suicide by sky diving 50' out of a hard maple I was taking down. Landed hard between two piles of wood, broke rear handle assembly, bend top handle and bar, but you know the SOB was still running as one of my groundmen mosied over to retrieve it. Had spare bar, straightened top bar in vise and acquired rear handle assembly from used dealer stock for $10, still have that saw today in fine running condition. Both mine have chain brakes, must older vintage than mine.

Enjoy. And if you don't, send it up here.....:hmm3grin2orange:

insulate the handle

You may want to put some kind of foam on the front handle, if you do a lot of sawing the vibration becomes noticeable. Not annoying but noticeable.

Also, buy the stihl chain in the yellow box (the wonderful non safety chain).

I'm guessing that the 028 are around 2.75 horsepower, maybe 3.

Can't go wrong buying this saw.
