Hello, I am a new memeber and am looking for some advice. I was looking at the Northstar 37 ton splitter for 1899.00 but I came across the possibility of buying a Timberwolf HV-2 for around 3k. It is worth the extra money for the TW or is the NS a better unit? Thank you in advance.

Overall the Timberwolf may be better but NOT a $1000 better. Both use the same pump, engine, and same size cylinder.
Regardless of advertised tonnage true tonnage is the same. The only things that I like better on the Timberwolf are the separate hydraulic tank and the better tires and rims.

Thank you for the input. How would you compare the construction of both? Is one made better then the other? I want something that I will have for a long time and that can be serviced. I noticed the NS cylinder cannot be worked on, if a crack occurs then I would have to but a new one correct?

Both should last a long time with proper care. The only thing that could go wrong with either cylinder are the seals and they are replaceable on both. If anything else would go wrong with either cylinder it would be cheaper to replace than to repair.

Ok, I have all the totals:

NS 1899.00 + 300.00 del + 100.00 fluids = 2300.00

TW 3000.00 del & flds incl. Difference is 700.00

So durability, reliability and if ever possible resale value, does 700 bucks still point to the NS or pay the extra for a TW? Thank you again.

If you are within a reasonable distance of Des Moines, Iowa there is a Northern store there. Load it in a trailer and haul it home. There may also be a Timberwolf dealer in Iowa, contact Timberwolf at 1-800-340-4386.

It's your choice but I would use the price difference to buy a new saw or trailer to haul the wood.:)
