Ok........I was gonna get a MS 290.........then a more powerful saw with a MS 390  then I decided......screw it.......I want a professional saw and am looking at a MS 361 :chainsaw: I was doing lighter residencial work but want to get into the bigger trees and want more power. I have done enough research here to know that the MS 361 is highly respected  I have the money and want a big powerful saw to help my smaller MS 180 that I will use for limbing. What is a real good price on a MS 361 new from a dealer? Retail $589.00 with a 20 inch bar ?????? Any other suggestions are also appreciated :greenchainsaw: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon

Talon, I was quoted a price of $509 for just the powerhead. Where in MI are you? I can send you to one of the best dealers Ive ever come into contact with.

And after 14 years in the Landscape industry, Ive seen a few.

Im not familiar with any dealers that way.

Are you looking for just the powerhead, or a bar too?

I bet if you went in and laid $520 cash on the counter a decent dealer would let you have the 361. I havent yet had a chance to run mine, but with a 16" bar, it feels really nice. Ill get a chance to run it tomorrow.

There is an auction ending on Ebay in like an hour, hardly used 361, last I checked it was at $450, with a case and extra chain.

Sore subject. don't forget the husky 357xp. before you buy anything. I would say look at the Jonsered 2156 but I would be Bias.

Yeah what manual said, don't forget the red saws...

the 5100 is one of the best all around saws out there. nothing wrong with the 2156 either.

Just go to a couple dealers and pick up some of the mentioned saws, ask to hold them and toss them around a little. it is what ever feels good in your hands. Never hurts to ask for demo's either. Any Dolmar dealer that stocks 5100's will have them for demo's. It is the cream of their small and midsized crop.

Thank you for your quick response :biggrinbounce2: I want a complete MS 361 with whatever powerhead comes stock. What size powerhead is stock? 16? 20? I want to keep the price on the lower end of $500 USA dollars if possible :help: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon

Yeah...what those guys said...

We dont have a decent Dolmar dealer around us. Otherwise I think theyd give Stihl a run for their money. The dealer Im talking about, dropping Husky, we are trying to talk him into Dolmar as a replacement.

powerhead

if iam right i think the power head refers to just the motor part and not bar and chain...u could use the bar and chain you have on the saw you have now and same some money.

If he doesn't, maybe I'll have to open up a shop and sell Dolmar. Hmmm...

Back on topic, the dealer that CaseyForrest is talking about is by far the best saw shop I've come across in southern Michigan. They're actually a SAW shop, not some "hey, we sell saws too" shop like so many places. No BS and they know what they're talking about, which is more than can be said for so many of the Detroit-area OPE dealers.

I guess that I'm very fortunate to have good dealers around me. The three that i frequent are actual saw shops, not lawn and garden stores with 2 saws on the shelf. (although they carry lawn and garden stuff, too)

My stihl dealer is about 20 minutes southeast from me. he is in a lot of logging country. he is amish, and most of his customers are amish working for the local mills

My Husky dealer(also former Jred) is about 1/2 south or me. He too is in the middle of loggin country

My Dolmar dealer is about an hour west of me, and is carries every model dolmar sells.

Now there are numberous other dealers between all of these guys, but they are the ones I choose to do business with. They are the technical guys that is needed in saw dealer. most shops do not carry a good saw guy around here.

Whoever is serious about helping their friend setup a dolmar dealership, talk to Big dave. he has been handling Dolmars for 20 some years

The Stihl dealer that I have been buying from is Mr Mower in Farmington Hills :D I bought my MS 180 from him and also a Stihl HS 181 hedge trimmer with a $439.00 MSP tag. He took 10% off the list price and has been in the same location for near 20 years :rockn: This dealer is only 4 miles away from me >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon
