I've been following these muffler mod threads for a while. Now its time to act. The other day I opened up the muff on the 066 and pulled out the screen. Thats all I could do in the field. Next step will be removing the box insisde the muff.
Now...here's my question. Is there a rule of thumb about how large the ID of the exhaust tubes should be compared to the exhaust port on the engine? RB quoted Ken Dunn saying that the exhaust pipe should be about 1.25-1.5 the area of the post. Does that sound right? If all we are looking for is a hole, why even put on a tube? Just drill out the muffler maybe?
Is there a "best" location for the tubes? Straight out front, top, sides? In the pics I see a lot of variations with the same saws.
Maybe I'm thinking too hard. Might be time to just poke a hole and see what happens.
The length of the exhaust pipe must have some difference too. I know that using a full-on pipe would be the best but that doesn't work too well out in the field.
