Finally bit the bullet and got my first saw. I have always enjoyed chainsaws dont know why but its great to grab and a saw and let it rip thru a tree.

I went to Home depot and looked at a few saws and at first i was really set on a 20" homelite i didnt wanna spend to much and from what i saw it didnt look like a bad saw at all.

I got there today and asked the Tech to grab a 20" homelite and he looked at me and said are you gonna use it twice. I looked at him and said well ya i plan on to and thats when he told me they are made by Ryobi now (not sure if its true) and the bar itself likes to bend at the end alot and something with the pullstart always giving hell after a few pulls.

I told him what i was going to do and he said that a 20" bar was probably over kill and pointed me to a 16" echo. Little more money for the size but i figured you pay for what ya get. So i ended up with the CS-370.

So far i love it i got it home let it idle for about 10 mins before letting it rip thru a oak and a mesquite. Starts easy, its light, powerful, and very well made.

Looking to do a few mods to it, ive read about the muffler mod but im still a little confused on where to exactly drill the holes. If someone could point me into the right direction with it, that would be great. Also do new chains stretch usually, because i hardly had used the saw and it needed the chain to be tightened already.

New chains will stretch and need to be tightened more often till they break in. Be sure not to tighten them while hot and let them cool while tight. They can warp a crank when they cool and contract.

I think I would run it awhile and do alot of reading on muffler mods and such. Don't jump into it too quick. Lots of good info here. Good luck with it.

agreed! If you mess with it youll void the warranty. Id wait until your warranty is up before modding anything.

Wow you guys brought up a good point i totally forgot about the warrenty. I love tinkering with stuff so my ears went up when i heard about a muffler mod.

:agree2:
Let your new saw break in some an then look to mod it or buy (or find) a project saw to have fun with. Once you become a member here, your bound to "acquire" more saw's in the near future! Have fun!

Yea man. I have that tinkering bug too. Don't mess up your new ride though. Modding is trial and error, with alot of info soaking in the process. Run about 15-20 tanks of fuel thru the saw, use up the warranty, and buy an old clunker saw at a yard sale or something to tinker with.

Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to tell you what to do.

Good idea its pretty right now dont wanna ruin it.

Yea man, I'd say you'll be into it before the warranty runs out. Hard to hold back I know. A couple of practice saws and I would go for it. Just use up most of the warranty anyways, if you can hold back.

Good luck bro!

Did they start it at the store? It would be a shame to toast a brand new saw. I would be finding a dealer somewhere who would put a tach on it and make sure its tuned correctly before I ran it much. It shouldn't cost ya much.

new Saw

Clay, if I were you I would look at Baileys on line and think about ordering a file and guide. Possibly another chain or two. I use Arbor Pro chains and am very satisfied with the results. While their get a free catalog! Ken

What part of Texas?

I think those Echos are fine looking saws. Good for you on spending the little bit of extra change.

Completely agree. All my Echo saws have been way lean from the get go but when properly tuned, they have been excellent for me.

Better clear a space on your shelf for another saw. Very few guys once they find this site stop with only one saw. All it will take is having a bigger tree come along and that will be the reason to buy another saw.

CAD is infectious. And allot of fun! Congrats on your new saw.

i'm not a big fan of echo chainsaws, but i will say that i like their looks. i only own one and it is an older 2 cylinder.

read up on tuning, 4-stroking, limiter caps, and muffler modding. if i were you, and you sound like you might fit right in here, i would run 5-10 tanks througt it and then have a go at modding the muffler. most warranty problems are going to pop up in the first tank or two. guys remeber, this saw has a 5 yr warranty, so telling him to wait until the warranty expires a bit of a stretch.

BTW, nice paint job on the toe nails!!!!!

not many guys here would admit to painting their toenails, but you went and posted a pic of it....
:jawdrop:

Best modification you can do to a saw is a decent sharp saw chain and that doesnt void warranty . I am sure the safety chain that is on it right now isnt the worlds fastest cutting chain .

:agree2:

Go get a Stihl yellow label chain, and save the stocker for cutting stumps. Sooner rather than later, you'll want have another member (or local shop) help you tune the mixture properly. those things are very lean out of the box.
