Did they start it at the store? It would be a shame to toast a brand new saw. I would be finding a dealer somewhere who would put a tach on it and make sure its tuned correctly before I ran it much. It shouldn't cost ya much.

No they didnt i think it runs great from what i can tell no bog after it idles a while and no cutting out when i let it scream. So from what i can tell the saw seems to be in the ball park of tuning. Although im going off of what i know about R/C nitro engines....

probably has tamper proof screws, will need special screw drivers for that...

and SURRRRREEEEE it is....we believe you....:)

No the needles have flatheads on it and can be tuned with a screwdriver, ive already checked it out.

Clay, if I were you I would look at Baileys on line and think about ordering a file and guide. Possibly another chain or two. I use Arbor Pro chains and am very satisfied with the results. While their get a free catalog! Ken

What part of Texas?
I did get a chainsaw sharpening kit is that the same as the file and guide?

Im in the central part of Tx. Marble falls to be exact.

Sorry with all the quotes, multi quote seems to not be working.

I thought the same thing but when I tried it then clicked reply it was all there....

the best thing would be to find out what the highspeed is supposed to be set at and get yourself a tac, or stop buy a saw shop and ask them if what they would charge you to have them set it....

Man i dunno where a saw shop would be at? Would a lawn mower place be able to do it?

Im really a hands on guy so if i could learn myself id rather do it.

Btw manual says to let it break in a few tanks before tuning the carb? Should i do this?

as long as its not breaking in, while its lean...:)

Digital Tachs can be had for the $100ish range...

However if you set it with the 4cycle method for break in it should be fine....

Ya lean and breaking in is bad!

Ive searched but i cannot find details on the 4 cycle method.

that 370 is a sweet saw,,i have another new one coming,,,thats all i buy is echo,,,first thing to do is turn the limiters full counter clockwise on the carb,,,,but if you feel daring pull the limiters and trim off the two tabs and put them back on and then you will have full adjustment,,,that muffler is a cat muffler,,,,,,the easiest way to get rid of that is pull the muffler and look inside the entrance side,,,take a drill and drill a few holes in the catalist,,,,and take a screw driver or something of the sort and pry all the pieces of the cat out,,,,IF you do both of those things that was will scream,,,,ohhh by the way,,,,echo finds all kinds of reasons not to warrenty any work,,,thats why i have no problems modding anything,,,,,,plus it will last a lot long

Ok so make it rich as hell then break it in? Ive been toying with the idea of taking the cat out.

Took the limiters out and richened it up a bit i think it was a 1 1/2 turns before it fell on its ass. Backed it off a little bit so i could cut with it and have it rich for the break in. Took down a mesquite. I was out there for about an hour and i never ran outta gas!

Best modification you can do to a saw is a decent sharp saw chain.

Lot of advice, so I will throw in mine too. First welcome to A.S.!

You got good advice to to pick the ECHO from those on the Home Depot shelf (HD can also get you Makita/Dolmar saws - the same ones they rent - but they don't advertise this).

Like Webie says - get an extra chain or 2 (but not from Home Depot) and learn how to keep them sharp. A really sharp chain on even a modest powered saw will outperform a dull chain on a bigger saw. It's not difficult, but usually takes a little practice and patience to get it right.

I would keep your new saw stock and run it for a while. You really won't know how it performs, or what effect any modifications have, until you have run the saw a while and have something to compare it to. You might like it as it. Some saws don't mod as well as others, and not all users benefit, depending upon their use. Also a good idea to practice modding garage sale saws.

Something I feel that should be mentioned. when your saw runs out of gas, then the engine is also out of lubricant. Put this in the back of your hippo-campus, Ken

Yep just like a rc nitro engine.

i'm not a big fan of echo chainsaws, but i will say that i like their looks. i only own one and it is an older 2 cylinder.

read up on tuning, 4-stroking, limiter caps, and muffler modding. if i were you, and you sound like you might fit right in here, i would run 5-10 tanks througt it and then have a go at modding the muffler. most warranty problems are going to pop up in the first tank or two. guys remeber, this saw has a 5 yr warranty, so telling him to wait until the warranty expires a bit of a stretch.

BTW, nice paint job on the toe nails!!!!!
Some guys just won't leave anything alone! Even their feet...

After a few tanks if no problems arise, like Walt suggested, drill out the cat and open the exit because it runs hot around 500F. If you open the muffler, you will need to enrich the high side of the carb. Looks like it uses a digital ignition so use a tach to tune it because you wont be able to tell the four stroking from the rpm limiter by ear.

Welcome to the club Clay. Echos are well built, and if your going to get something at Depot, that's the one to come home with.

But this must a new, and more dangerous strain of CAD that we are dealing with here. He seemed to catch it before he even got his first saw.

I took the limiters out then i tried to hear it 4 stroking but couldnt. So i went really rich and then backed it out enough to where i could cut with it. I always break in 2 stroke engines a little rich to get enough lubrication in the cylinder. I guess after a few tanks ill try to find a place with a Tach. Whats the echos supposed to spin to?

What do you mean dangerous strain of CAD? Little new at this ha.

Btw can someone break it down for me as far as chains go. I see different pitches, and profiles.
