At least in NE Pa. This is starting to remind me of the winters of 94 and 95 ( thats 1994 for you wise guys ) only earlier. There's close to a foot of snow here and cold weather for at least until Christmas then a warm up of sorts but who knows for how long ? I'll have to get my brothers cleatrac if I want more down back. Otherwise, hope I have enough cut until April at least. Anyone else that was cutting and burning ?

:(

Nope

Any wood I cut now is for next year or the year after. Indiana weather has been rather odd.. either too icy or to muddy.. Today would be a nice day if you did not mind the 6 degrees and -11 wind chill factors.

I wish I was cutting, still need more but still hooking up part of the OWB anyway. My girlfriend actually volunteered to go cutting today with me but have to hook up some more lines...hate missing out on a helper though :) We rarely get streaks like this weather for two long around here so I'm not too worried yet...I grew up in Buffalo so winter around here doesn't worry me :) I just need the snow to to let up a bit so I can at least get the rest of the stuff I have cut up waiting at a friends...

Yeah it sure looks pretty coming down and the kids will get a white Xmas but it's depressing in the sense that it's going to make heading up into the woods impossible for a while. I'm going to snowshoe up and see what kind of storm damage occurred and what I'll be able to turn into firewood.

Same here. I've cut/split everything we'll use this winter and it's stored in my attached barn. There's maybe a cord or so of wood still outside on the pallets, but that will be for next winter. If I do get too cut anything more it'll just get stacked over there too be split and seasoned for next winter.

I did my last cutting yesterday to get a tree downed by last weeks ice storm off my daughter's swingset. She insisted as only a three year old can. I was planning on taking it down in the spring, but mother nature got to it first. Cut it into four foot lengths and piled them up, then dragged the brush to the woodsthrough about a foot of snow. Enough for me this year.

I do most of my gathering and cutting in Dec-Feb when the ground is frozen.Today however is about too much. I don't mind it cold but we have 25-35 gusting to over 40 today so its just about unbearable he today. Hope its better tomorrow.

Even though this years is all in I am still trying to get out to keep cutting. Now that the ground is frozen I can get in again but have no time with the Holidays quickly approaching. Like others have said any that gets cut now is for next season. I won't be bringing it in yet. Just tossing it in a low spot out of sight from the road so hopefully it will still be there when I go back for it in the Spring.

I'm missing my cutting time, but priorities prevail.

I've got three cords in the woodshed, which should be enough to get me through until sometime in February, or maybe March if I'm really lucky. After that, I have to root around in the snowdrifts for my other piles and take what I can. By April the snow's all gone around here, usually, and I can go back to filling the woodshed. There's a foot of snow here now and I'm not eager to go out in it.

Down into the negatives last night and high of around 10 today. Been that way for a week or more. My porch is stuffed with 99 percent willow which means tossing a chunk in about every 15-20 minutes. Sitting here I can see my 'reserve' of 10 cured cords and 8 green cords of locust and I can't get to any of it without shoveling through 4' drifts. Around 16" on the ground and still snowing right now.

its the poconos, you will have rain next week and it will be all gone.
lived there for 15 years....winters stink there
that why i moved up to cuse, to get real snow.....

iam still cutting this years wood and hope that the trees covered my 1/4 mile roadway to get to the tops ive been cutting on we had snow then ice then somore snow with 40 mile winds great fun to live in iowa lol larry

Cutting

I'm still cutting and this morning it was 3 degrees, windy and snowing. Just miserable. Diesel engines don't like to start when its that cold makes getting the tractor into the woods difficult. The foot and a half of snow we have at least is pure powder so you can drive right through it but it will be and interesting next couple of weeks in the woods thats for sure. :chainsaw:

Yup: Normally I get most of my wood in dec.-march....Those days are for sure done this year here in southern Minnesota. 4 foot drifts, can't get truck and trailer near woods, looks like wait till april and things dry up.....Crap. Now, that turns this into a really long winter!!!:censored:

Hmmm.... First week in January, 2008, I brought in 4 cords of red oak from one large tree that I cut down with my Mac 610 and Echo 3900. I split it immediately and I'm burning it now. Dry as a bone. Fabulous firewood.

What a difference a year makes. :dizzy:

Are you guys crazy? Ever heard of a January thaw?

well the high today here was about 20...with wind gusting the whole day...by the time i quit sawing a splitting tonight it was 7 with -15 windchill. it was acollld day. and im gonna go ahead and admit...i snuck into the woodburner multiple times. It was just me and another 16 year old friend of mine.....it was a 4 cord day. The old bear did a lot of work today and the neighbors splitter got a work out. Also delivered 1/2 a cord to a guy in town and brought 1/4 into the house for some serious cold weather burning the next few days. I love cutting this time of year...i crave it. Current temperature...a balmy 4 degrees. yippee fricken A. Only if it would snow

Never got over -2 today and really windy thought I had enough wood to make it through but now I'm thinking hummm maybe not. Luckily I have tons of 4-6 inch standing dead red elm, now for the unlucky part all I have to pull my wood wagon with is my old trusty Honda 250SX 3 wheeler no laughing it still does a great job but not so good in 10 inches of snow and I thought I was going to get a jump on next year.
