Nope none of whatever is in the avitar..... lol any way.. I am looking at a used but running and idling 044... no bar no chain with it for 150.oo Is it worth that? ... what is it worth? I will be felling all size trees... mabye biggest 30" in diameter.... I am younger and fairly rugged so I am not too worried about weight... but every time I say 066 or 088 peoplr freak out and say that is way too heavy... yes i will be using this saw all day on weekends this summer... I was gonna buy new.. but i only wanna spend about 500.00 at tops and I cant find a larger saw for that can I? PS. i AM ALSO THINKING OF GETTING A SMALL POULAN OR CRAFTSMAN WITH AN 18 INCH BAR FOR LIMBING.
If I was you I'd just buy that 044 for 150 and then pickup a bar and chain. You seem torn between getting a 60cc saw or something bigger. Use the 044 and see if its more saw then you need. If it is, you can always sell the 044 powerhead and then go out and buy yourself a new ms361. If you think its about the sizeclass your looking for you can also sell it and buy yourself a new ms441.

whats it worth

but whats the saw worth....? i would probally put a new jug ,piston and rings in it..... and clean the carb when i got it... though it runs fine.... I just want a saw that will last a long long time... without selling and trading... 044... is a 60cc saw correct? whats the 441? and what is it sometimes a 044 and other times a 440?

72cc A decent running 044 is easily worth $150. We don't freak out about 066 weight it's just an 044 is capable of so much you really dont need the 066 that often. My 044 feels like a nimble little saw after using the 66. I use the 66 for over 30-36" + use. If you want a 66 get one. For your use tho 361 or good used 044 sounds perfect.

I agree, you should pick up that used 044,run it,see how it fits in with the work your doing.
a used 044 for your blocking up and felling and a new 361 for limbing and topping out, that would be a sweet combo.

Its hard to tell what the 044 is worth without out knowing how good it is mechanically and what shape it is in. The only information you gave us is that it runs and idles good. I think, and other people on this board seem to conclude, that a ms361 would suit you well. The ms441 is the new ms440 which is similar in design to the ms361. The ms440 is a newer 044 that has some added features and design changes. If you need more info on the ms441 there are many threads on this forum that discusses it in great detail.

If you ever get into any wood over 20" or are cutting alot of wood around that size as 70cc saw is the way to go.
I have owned a MS 361 and a MS 036. I always found them lacking when it came to that size wood, but at the same time not as nimble/light as a 50cc class saw.
The MS440 is a fine saw, the Husky 372 XP is even better, but if it where me I might be inclined to pick up a MS 441 if your set on a Stihl. The 440 has only got a few more months before its gone.

I guess I have a few ?'s.

1) What are you using now?
2) How much experience do you have?
3) Why have you decided to go with only stihl?
4) You mentioned a few models how did you come up with these models? Did you see them on the stihl site?

You seem to be loaded with ?'s, but it seems to me you haven't done much research on your own. Based on the information you provided its hard for anyone to give you a concrete answer on what saw would best suit your needs.

l yes its worth it.....

Depending on cosmetic condition and if its runnin as you say if it is really clean 350 ,,,, if its a beater 200

Hey it yo money.... if you buy the pull on or craps man they will work but on here they ar regarded as throw aways after you wear them out and if thats what you want,,,,,,,,,,,Go for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Find yourself a good used MS260/026 w/16" bar and a used MS460/046 w/20" and 28" bars a great combo for your needs. This is the combo I cut with 99% of the time now except I also add a 24" bar. The 260 covers your limbing and the small felling and bucking up to about 18" dia. This covers a lot more wood then most people think 16" to 20" is probably the average "firewood" size around here. The 460 covers the 18" to 30" range well and will blast through 20" wood like a rabid beaver. I highly doubt you will ever run into a tree that you can't handle with this setup. Might push you a little over your budget but if your patient and keep looking you can find some really good deals, for the work your doing it would be worth the extra money. If your only going to get one saw the choice is pretty simple, the MS361 is light, nimble and capable of running a longer bar for limited use. The MS440/044 is also a good choice for your needs, but falls into the heavy rage for a limbing saw. Since you say you are cutting firewood I will assume that you also intend to buck the limbs into firewood lengths which means 80% of your cutting will be limbing (one tree trunk = 25 limbs) and in my opinion makes the 361 a better choice. Go with the two saw setup you will be much better off in the long run, and your body will thank you for it.

to bad you had your heart set on stihl...The 7900 is just a bit heavier then the 361 and would eat most of what you are talking about for lunch..couldnt be happier with mine...well until the muffler comes back anyway lol..
