At Lowe's a chainsaw was on display with the chain on backwards. I pointed this out to a nearby guy with his blue Lowe's vest on and he just shrugged and walked away.

Unfortunately, that is what you would expect at a Big Box store, it would be pretty much the same, whatever color saws HD carries as well

It’s not like saws are even a fraction of the business that nails are there, they sure ain’t a “Saw Shop”, and I wouldn’t trust many (any??) of their employees with a running saw in hand

I "acquired" a Stihl 015 top handle with the chain on backwards. The previous owner cussed the saw cause it wouldn't cut. He tried several chains..... It started and ran excellent. So I took a chance on it at $75. Didn't notice the backward chain until I got home. Turned the chain around and it cut like a little Tasmanian Devil!
