oh and almost forgot, you say boob job like it's a bad thing????:D

I`ve got no problems with a good boob job!

I didn`t coin the phrase "boob job" in relation to saw mods, I believe that Cahoon did when referencing Gypo`s 044 that he modified with a file. Gypo`s 044 does run very well and to the extent that a guy may just want to see what certain timing changes can do for performance, with no eye toward longevity, boob jobs work! Are they the right thing to do if you want your saw to stand up to rigorous use? I don`t think so and I don`t believe that you will find any true experts that would support this type of mod either.

I don`t understand why Gypo advocates modifying the cheap component, the piston, on one hand ala A. Graham Bell, and yet on the other hand potentially fubars the barrel on the same mod by raising the exhaust port roof, with a file! How does he get adequate port chamfer to protect the rings? How does he file the port roof without potentially flaking the chrome off around the port? There are alot of questions along these lines that I already asked in the basic saw mods thread that John flat out ignored and did not answer. I`m sure that I appeared to be a smart ass but these are still legitimate questions and points that anyone thinking of follwing Gypo`s lead should consider. That`s all.

More power to Gypo for getting under the hood, on his own saws.;)

You can't play around with files. Air-powered die-grinder, clean, sharp carbide burrs, accurate measuring instruments and a "plan". Extreme attention to detail, excellent cleaning apparatus and patience. Now you will be in the "ball-park." Until you are smooth and accurate, spend a few hours learning technique on old cylinders.

Oh Bullsh!t! If that were the case, saw mods would be out of the realm of the do it yourselfer.

I am sure Mr Martin will appreciate having his name brought up in this fashion. For people who don't know, Mr Martin is a real person and member of Arboristsite. John used to treat him as a friend.

Below is a link to some material you may find of use on your saw modification course, John

A far as I am concerned, saw mods are out of the realm of do-it-yourselfers. Any bozo can play around. I am talking about major HP gains, repeatability as far as accuracy and performance and proven longevity of the final product. Half you clowns can't even read a micrometer or vernier caliper, scary.

Sometimes this is not the case. I don't like to see honest people getting burned by self-proclaimed experts. I see hack jobs coming into our shop from all over. One guy in Kelowna BC charges $270.00 to port a muffler and , (get this), sharpen the leading edge of the throttle plate in the carb on the MS660's. There are people getting ripped off all over and it irritates me. Oh, and Happy New Year 04Ultra.

I mean DYI's who have the tools and the knowledge to do this.

I agree with your above statement!

If you knew me you would also know that is a given. It is called integrity. I have hundreds of customers outside the chainsaw world as I manufacture many components for other industries. I have a very good reputation. Good service and honest business seems to be giving in to get-rich-quick schemes and take-the-money and run ideas. I make most of my money on repeat business from customers that trust me. Every product has a service life, having happy, repeat customers tells me I am not shafting clients.

Ken, the beauty part is that we don`t have to order a saw, we`re getting one for free! You can have it on the odd weeks, I`ll take even. ;)
