Glad your ok!! Reading these types of stories sends shivers up my spine...

I try take the time to put my steel toe boots on when I go out to do any work.. you never know what you will get side tracked doing. My wife looked at my boots the other day and asked what I did to them, I looke and I guess somthing happend cause I had a huge gash in the leather right down to the steel toe about 1.5" long. I assume that would have hurt if I didn't have them on.

Absolutely right about that. When I sit back and think about what should have happened I realize how truly blessed I was. I plan on doing exactly what you say about taking the time to put those steel toes on every time.

I worked for a tree nursery some time ago and we were unloading a flatbed full of 4" oaks with a forklift. I had my steeltoes on and as the fork driver came in to get a tree he couldn't set the forks all the way on the bed, didn't fell a thing but when he backed up he scraped all the leather right off the top of the toe of my boot. Boy was I glad I had those babies on.

Too fast for me. She's getting independent at the ripe age of 2. I think 'mom' is about to kick the potty training up another notch. She did her first 'big' no-no the other night...writing with a black ink pen on the white wall (had never thought that she would do that...) . What I heard from upstairs was: "OH NOOO...KEVIN!!!" after she was discovered by mom. After some scrubbing, mom got enough off so it looks decent. I guess my wife and I are still learning...NO more leaving ANY pen, pencil, marker etc. unsecured! I'm sure this is just the beginning. We still love her very much.

On the steel toe deal, I dont' own a pair of boots that get wore for work that are not steel toed. We are required for work to be in them and honestly I wouldn't ever not wear them again. Kinda like wearing a hard hat around timber or in the rock quarry, after a while its just second nature to have it on. I don't set foot on a piece of equipment without putting my ear plugs in, only exception to that is when running the extrication tools on the fire dept, time and being able to hear and see good are of the essance there.

Even as careful as a person is accidents do happen and can happen at a momnents notice. I don't remember if i posted it here or not about getting my hand caught between the pads of our 15C dozer when reinstalling the tracks. I had them over the two rollers and moving towards the front idealer and need to lift the chain up, I had a guy helping me but I had done this plenty of times before and it was going to be quicker to just jump off and do it myself. I steped down off the tracks and just set my hand on them, bout that time they buckled and fell, and my hand slipped into between the pads. My hand was stuck for about 15 to 20 mins. When it happend I told our mec to call up to the office, but he was down at the plant. So knowing my dad was across the street at his office(head of county highway dept) I just called him, then called my boss and within about 3 mins I had 5 people there.

We couldn't just pry up, cause the tracks over lap eachother and it was already past the pinch point. Torching wsa too close to my hand so only way was to just take the four bolts out holding the pad. Had a pair of mechanix wear gloves on and it didn't even tear it, but did rip the top of one finger right over. few stiches and some pain med and I was home, then to a specialist the next day, dind't do any nerve or tendon damage so all was good, still sore yet to this day.

Sounds like a pretty hairy situation...good to hear you made it out ok!
